NC State

I just got deferred from NC State, what are my chances of getting in from out-of-state for engineering? (slim I think)

GPA: 3.06
Senior Year GPA: 3.33
ACT: 34 (English 35, Math 35, Science 32, Reading 34)
Class Rank: (didn't send to NC State: 140/280)
SAT: 2010 (Math: 780, Critical Reading: 650, Writing: 580)

Thanks!

"North Carolina State University provides its student body with a combination of practical experience and theoretical knowledge in a curriculum with a technological bent. It offers strong programs in business, textiles and design, engineering, premedical sciences, and a host of agricultural and wildlife sciences. While some here feel that the school “offers no liberal arts program,” others point out that its College of Humanities and Social Science is “underrated” and “becoming just as important as [the] engineering and agriculture” colleges. There is no doubt, however, that the school “emphasiz[es] out-of-classroom experiences.” A senior boasts, “All I had to do was ask my professors about opportunities in my field and they heaped internships and research studies so high on me I had to reject six of them.” A junior adds, “NCSU really cares about students and provid[es] them with great facilities, community resources, and professors—something you can’t really say for many schools of this size.” Students report that the faculty are “very knowledgeable.” “Many people tell you in high school that professors do not care about you [or] your academic success, but from what I have seen here at NCSU, most professors do care as long as you are willing to put forth the effort to ask,” a freshman reports. The administration, on the other hand, “is very difficult to get a hold of, unless it’s something they themselves care about.” Fortunately, many administrative tasks can be handled easily online."

wow thanks, at least I usually reply with that princeton review stuff when it makes sense lol

What decisions were posted today? Early Admission or something?

If you applied by the November 15th deadline, you should get your admissions decision tomorrow

For some reason though, I just checked my status and it said deferred so maybe some of the decisions are already posted.

Pierre...I think you have a good chance of getting in. You have high ACT and M+R SATs, but your GPA is likely holding you back a bit. You're a good example of why SATs really don't trump GPA, and are often considered a secondary substantiating factor in admissions. Still, I hope you get in...NC State has some great engineering programs and is often overlooked on these boards. Good luck!
