NCAA B-Ball: Cornell v. Stanford

Cornell's big red takes on Stanford!

The Big Red Bear is gonna climb that tree.

Here's hoping for an upset!

I was hoping that Cornell wouldn't get matched up w/ Stanford because I'm a huge fan of both teams. Unfortunately, Stanford likes to play its two 7-footers together and Cornell's tallest player is 6-9. I expect Cornell to get dominated inside and on the boards.

The Lopez twins are going to destroy us....oy.

This pits my daughter's first two college choices...

Eh.. as long as Cornell puts up a good fight I'd be okay with it. I think we will be even better in the next few years.

haha it's the smart people schools together.

nahhh, I'll be rooting for Cornell, actually I'll just be proud to see them out there playing this late in the season!

Jeff Foote is is 7'.

We are just one 7 footer short

Jeff Foote is also like 20lbs. He doesnt count

Ah, you're right. Missed him while looking at the Cornell roster.

"Jeff Foote is also like 20lbs. He doesnt count"

Jess Foote has also held his own against some of the best! Look back at the Duke game.

Foote did not even go up against any decent post presence in the Duke game. Foote went up against a decidingly average 7 footer in Zoubek and a 6'8'' forward in Lance Thomas. Duke's lineup was very very small.

Stanford's two 7 footers, each of them who outweigh Foote by about 30 lbs, is about the worst situation you can possibly expect.

This is also why i was very disappointed in this seeding. There are other teams where we match up alot better and stand a much better chance of pulling off the upset.

Looking at common opponents to Stanford and Cornell, Stanford beat Harvard by about 60 points early in the season - ouch! But Cornell beat Harvard, and both Stanford and Cornell beat Siena by about the same margin. As a UCLA alum, I should be rooting for the Pac 10 and Stanford but as a Cornell parent, I would love to see the Big Red take down The Tree.

Sienna BEAT stanford, that was what everybody was talking about early this basketball season. But that was without Brook Lopez (the better of the two 7-footers). But to be fair to us, we also beat Sienna early this season and we have improved alot since then.

If all goes well, we could make it a good game.

Well we knew Cornell would be seeded around 14-15 since that's reserved for the winners of the mid-major conferences and that Stanford would be seeded 3rd so it's only slightly unfortunate that they ended up matched up against each other. Cornell is awesome in free-throw and 3-pt. shooting so if they take advantage of every opportunity and make 60% on 3's, they might lose by less than 15.

And, yes, Duke is very small. Very different from Stanford. Stanford matches up awesomely against Cornell since Cornell shoots 3's well and Stanford is very aggressive on the perimeter (and they can afford to be with the twin towers inside).

anyone know if the game will be televised?

The game won't be televised. CBS will flip to it if it happens to be close because of some fluke.

However, all March Madness games are available online for free in their entirety on March Madness on Demand on CBS Sportsline/ ncaasports.com

ohh nice. Thanks goyanks193

Let's not forget the women's team also made the tourney (first time in team history) with a win over Dartmouth to break a 3-way tie atop the Ivy League. They're seeded 15th and will play #2 seed Rutgers. Unfortunately, upsets are rare women's basketball. It's not unusual to see scores like 80-35. If Cornell loses by less than 30 in the first round, it'll be an accomplishment :)

Actually, that match up was only the ESPN prediction. We got seeded 16th and will be playing UCONN in round 1 for the women.
