So I only had one college that required that they receive an ncp waiver and that happened to be my first choice. I was accepted ed II to the college and found out I had to fill I out. My dad isn’t in my life period. He kicked my mom out when she was seven months pregnant with me. For a long time he lived in the city and wouldn’t see us. When he did I didn’t want to go because he made me uncomfortable. He left me in the lobby of a movie theater to wait after I walked out on saw and was scared to go with again. After yelling at me for being frightened he walked back in and continued to movie. He doesn’t believe my brother is his, would call to talk recklessly about my mother and would mostly yell at me when the phone went silent. I last saw him at my brothers graduation and the only reason he attended he me clear was because my cousin also graduated from my brother’s school. I have not spoken to him since its been 5 years. He has no idea that my brother is now schizophrenia or that we were homeless for a year. To my knowledge he probably wouldn’t care. He pays child support and goes on about his business. To my knowledge he lives somewhere in California and that’s all I know. Would you waive this circumstance.
Also is it possible to accept admission to a college and then decline it later to go to another? Can I select that I plan to enroll in a college and then change my mind later on if it was early decision and the financial aid was not sufficient. I ask because my third party letter writer still hasn’t written their letter and I have a little over a week to reply with my decision.
No, you cannot. As you know you have a very short window to accept your ED decision. If you accept the ED decision, then you must withdraw all of the other applications. If you have received a financial aid offer, and it is not financially feasible for your family then you can withdraw from ED now.
However, you cannot wait to see what all of the other offers look like. Do this and you will not have anyplace to attend in the fall.
@sybbie719 Yes I got it straightened to some extent. Turns out a 27 is much better than people claimed it was I don’t feel as stupid and my FAFSA ended up fine. I got accepted into every college I applied to even my reach schools. Much to the contrary of what they said. Yet, I’m not sure what there is to be said about the NCP.
It’s nice that you got accepted to a lot of schools. BUT…with regard to your ED2 acceptance…you need to either accept that offer of admission by the specified date AND with draw all other applications…or you need to decline the ED2 offer of acceptance.
The requirement for a NCP Profile was clearly stated as a requirement on the school financial aid website. Clearly. Right? The Profile and NCP Profile forms…and waivers for the NCP form have been available since OCTOBER. Why didn’t you get this detail reconciled sooner?
Contact the ED2 school. Get the deadline for this NOW. Did they even send you a financial, aid package with that ED2 acceptance?
@thumper1 No they did not because they didn’t have all of my information. My guidance counselor had to watch a video on the CSS profile before she could explain it to me needless to say I was confused. I had to call the college and request the ncp waiver form. My only problem is that my third parties all seem not to care that I’m on a deadline. Also you’re like a very harsh parental figure I now see. You’re always on me about mistakes. By the way I filled out the CSS back in October, but the NCP wasn’t really on my mind until I figured out my mom wasn’t allowed to just fill it out. Even if she could we don’t have the right information. Would you mind finding my dad for me? He could set this whole thing straight.
Also @thumper1 the financial aid representative simply said that as long as the main components came in they were more than happy to wait on additional things. My third party letters complete the waiver.
@austinmshauri when you look at a transfer in a bank account there are no details as to where exactly something came from. It’s court mandated he pays it. It’s in the account. Done. You don’t have to provide a full address and all information to the other parent to pay child support, nor do you have to have contact with the parent paying it.
Like I said…contact the school. You cannot make an ED2 matriculation decision without a financial aid award. The school will tell you what to do. then contact those third party folks again…and ask them politely to get this info to the school asap.
And FYI…YOU cannot complete a non-custodial parent profile. The link to do so is sent to the non-custodial parent…who either must complete the form…or you need that waiver.
You can’t accept the ED offer unless you also withdraw all your other apps. Without a financial aid package, you can’t afford to do that. If the person writing a letter regarding your situation isn’t doing it, you need to find another. Do you have any financial safeties in case you can’t get the paperwork done on time?
@austinmshauri yes I have plenty. It’s just disheartening to know that I’m giving up Syracuse. To know that no one is proud and that people around me could care less if I got financial aid or went to college in general.
@thumper1 the link was sent to me. Since no one knows this man and no has information on file. I’m just not sure what to do and my mother is of no help nor does she care. She wants me to go to U of Memphis “that’s the only school you’re smart enough for anyways”. I had her write her letter under different pretences and sign the form for different reasons. I really want to go to Syracuse and have been working a job to so. I have until February 15th to give them my decision and I’m not sure what to do. Finally I got a piece of something and it’s being taken away again.
@austinmshauri University of Memphis, Juniata, University of Illinois Edwardsville, Columbia College Chicago, Syracuse, Fisk, MTSU. Yes I have net costs that are affordable that range from 1000-6,000 but my heart is set on Syracuse and my grandparents set a limit of up to 10,000 per year in plus loans that they’d pay for if my mother was willing. It’s my dream. Crushed for the second time after all the hard work it took to here I’m down to less than two weeks and a lot of hope.
Try to get that third party info to Syracuse. You didn’t get a financial aid package…because your financial aid application materials were incomplete (NCP or waiver…missing).
But keep this in mind also…Syracuse is a great school. It is VERY expensive. But the school does NOT guarantee to meet full need for all students. You need to SEE their financial aid award, because it might just not be enough for you to attend anyway. That happens too.
But right now…you need to get the third party info sent in ASAP…
@thumper1 yes I know. I’d be in a better state of not attending however if I just didn’t have enough money. I’d be much more upset if I didn’t get to go because my paperwork wasn’t on time because someone just didn’t want to take 10 minutes out of their day to write a simple letter.
There’s no way for us to know. You have to get your forms in and see what they say. Since you have financial safeties, I wouldn’t stress about it. If it works out, great. If not, go to one of your other options. Is there one that’s a clear favorite?
You must add the child support to the fafsa , did you add the child support received to the FAFSA?
If your grandparents are willing to do this, why don’t they just pay it to the school? I can understand your mom not having the most stable financial situation, not taking out PLUS loans of 40k+.
To add on to what Thumper said, Syracuse does not meet 100% demonstrated need. The closest they come to meeting 100% are NYS students who are admitted through HEOP and then they were given a lot of loans.
My experience dealing with Syracuse for a student with a 0 EFC was she had a really big gap in her financial aid package (this was after her non-custodial waiver was approved). We made a lot of phone calls to to the regional admissions rep who I knew, who recommended us to another program for economically disadvantaged NYS students. The person in charge of that program, happened to be attending a program in NYC and we set up a meeting in NYC for my student to meet him, to get some extra funding.
