I am required 2 take a math test for busines major.....any1 already take this test? is this hard or sumthing? and can any1 tell me when the conference starts for day 1?

You have to take a test to get into Math 150?
I thought the prerequisites were hs algebra I, II and geometry.

thats wat I thought 2 but it says we have 2 take a 90 minute online test.
Business majors (me) have 2 take a math test and eng majors have 2 take a precal test.

Oh crap.
That's gonna suck..

I'm assuming it's a placement test.
If you don't score high enough then you can't take math 150?

I have to take it for engineering too! BOO!

DP

wait, I have to take math as a biz major?? who said?

Yeah, Math 140 and 141.
I just got off the phone with the counselor.
He said that you don't have to take any placement tests to get into those two classes..
But I don't know man. The counselors gave me wrong info. regarding transferable credits last week. Better to double check..

Take the classes over the summer... I think 141 and 142 are 1324 and 1325 respectively. I would also lighten your load for next semester.

wait, y are we taking these math tests? wat are they for?

I took a required test online like that for engineering the summer before my freshman year. It's not a big deal, and if you took math senior year you will be fine. It's required for majors that involve more than just the basic university math requirements. All it is is an assessment test. You take it, score a certain score on it, then the counselor tells you that based on that test you should start out in a certain math class. If you score low, it doesn't mean you have to take a remedial math class, it's just A&M's opinion of what class you should take. You are supposed to take it prior to coming to your New Student Conference.

For example, if you score low on the engineering assessment... A&M says your first semester you should take Math 150, which is a Trig/PreCal. class. Whereas most people would start with Math 151 (Engineering Calc. I). It's not required that you take 150, just recommended. The assessment test however is required. Kind of dumb in my opinion, but it's useful for those who think they should retake a class because they haven't mastered those techniques.

is the Math test (not preCal test) for business majors hard or just SAT/ACT questions? btw any chance u know how many qs?

when I signed up for orientation, it said that business major dont need to take any tests.. unless you are taking placement tests to opt out of math 141 and math 142 (biz calc)

Good deal!

Mine was only roughly 35 questions. And idk, to me it seemed easier than SAT/ACT questions. That was 2 years ago though, and for engineering.

wow, only 35 qs? and they are giving us 90 mins....WOOT!

Well they are math problems. It's not like it's M/C or T/F, you have to work them out... so it takes a bit of time. But then again the time allotted for it was still quite a bit extra than needed.
