So I’m a freshman right now and I want to attend NCSSM. I live in the Mecklenburg area so it’s probably competitive. I currently have all A’s in all my classes (Honors Math 2, APES, AVID I, French 1, Honors World History). I have Math 3, English II, and Health & PE right now. I’m trying to take Pre-Calculus and US History Civics over the summer so I could take 3 AP classes next year. I’m not able to join any clubs this year because my parents aren’t able to pick me up after school but I’m trying to join clubs next year. I’m ranked 11 out of 397 in my grade which is okay but wouldn’t be considered top 1%. I’m trying to get a job during the summer while taking the 2 online classes. I know my stats are weak compared to others so I want to know what type of ways could I increase it in 10th grade? Thanks ^~^
My son is at NCSSM and will graduate this year. He is also from Mecklenburg county and you are right - it is in the top 2 as far as being competitive. In addition to taking advanced classes (and doing well in them), extra-curricular stuff does help…specially leadership roles. But also, try to build relationships with your teachers as their recommendations weigh heavily as does the essays you will need to write. You will need to make yourself stand-out and ‘just’ good grades isn’t enough for your district
