I’m planning on applying for the NCSSM this year in order to attend my junior and senior years. I’d love to get into Duke and I feel like this is my only chance. I’ve gotten A’s all my life and I’m currently taking Math 3 Honors, AP World History, Spanish 3 Honors, and English 2 Honors. Next semester, I’ll be taking Anatomy and Physiology Honors, Sports Med, Chemistry 1 Honors, and Pre-calc Honors. I’m a student-athlete and in unified champions. I know this isn’t much; which is why I’m looking for feedback. I’d like to know what else I should have under my belt in order to make my application stronger, and which test I should take. Are the SAT and ACT equal levels of difficulty, and which looks better on an application? I have a lot of information to gather and it becomes overwhelming at times. If anyone has information that could help me out, I’d be happy to hear it. Thanks!
Hey! I actually graduated from NCSSM in 2011. I don’t think the test you take really matters as long as you do your best.
In terms of making your app stronger, what are you really passionate about? Do you like doing science activities? Are you more of a history nerd? Try doing after school activities that get you engaged in what you enjoy learning about. NCSSM thrives on community, so they want to see that their students are engaged and collaborating with other students in whatever they’re passionate about. Be a creator and a leader.
