One of our kids is really interested in NCSSM and planning to apply. One unknow for her is, however, sports. Does anyone have any idea how competitive the girls' basketball and soccer teams are? Also do/will they have field hockey?

Hi, I’m applying this year, but I know a lot about NCSSM from being there this past summer and alumni. Soccer and girls basketball are very competitive since the school has people from all across the state who may play the same sports and may have better playing ability. I do not know a lot about field hockey at NCSSM, but if the school does not happen to have it, your daughter can make it a club where she can get other students who are interested in it and possibly form a team that may compete against other teams. I hope that I helped. Wish your daughter luck in the NCSSM admissions process!

The girl’s basketball team is NOT doing well this year.

I graduated last spring and the two years I was at the school were pretty good for girl’s bb. The team had a talented point guard and a pretty decent coach.

There is a new coach this year. I haven’t seen any games, but heard there’s a lot of yelling and the girls are still getting killed at every game. A couple of girls quit right before winter break. You can easily google the team’s record this year if you’d like win/loss details.

If you are really serious about your d playing basketball, you might want to investigate the coaching situation. Maybe he’s just a temporary coach or on trial? If your d just likes to play for fun and winning doesn’t matter, I wouldn’t worry, but if you are looking for a basketball program to develop her skills for perhaps college, this coach doesn’t seem to be at that level. While there are championship athletic teams at NCSSM, that competitiveness doesn’t appear to ever extend to the basketball teams.

There is not a field hockey team that I know of. I agree that your daughter can start a club if she can find a sponsor and enough time in her schedule.
