Ncssm

so i've seen a bunch of threads on this... but i really wanted someone to evaluate my chances of getting in and tell me what i can improve on for next year
i'm a rising sophomore

honors biology
honors civics/econ
spanish 2
honors english
final: all a's
ranking: between 20-30 (not sure)
over the summer-
volunteering and taking accelerated pre-calc course (grade will not go on transcript)
ug
sophomore

honors anatomy
ap environental sciences
ap calc ab
honors spanish 3
honors english

ecs: various service organizations, VP of service organization, medical club (application based), spanish club, city teen council, volunteering ALOT

next year: i plan on joining envirothon and becoming co-president/co-founder of a club (not science/math related), i also plan on doing either forensics club or model un

sat: unavailable (goal is to get 2000,with atleast 700 in math)
i'm not much of a math person (BARELY GOT AN A) but i really enjoy science (100 average!) and i really want to go into a science career.
my main concern is that i'm not in enough science/math clubs like other people who do science olympiad (not interested in it), and i havent won any science/math awards nor have i participated in any math competitions
it's not that i hate math and i'm not THAT bad at it...it's just that im not as interested in it as i am with science. i'm also from the wake county district...and i go to the MOST competitive school there. -___-

so can anyone evaluate my chances and tell me what i can do next year?
i'd really appreciate it.

If you survive the strain you are going to have next year.... and do fairly decent ( ALL A's), you have a decent shot. It really depends on where you are from. Im see that you are from the RDU area. When the selection people do their selecting next spring they compare you to others from your area. I am from Lumberton and I was compared against people from around here. However you are in a different boat. I just say... do your best and good luck. I made it in this year and will start in Aug.

Good Luck....
Alex

Any Questions... just email me at galexander02@hotmail.com

lumberton ?...are you a lumbie indian?....they used to make converse sneakers there...I like the big chinese restaurant next to main street.

Are you from Enizzle Nashizzle Loeizzle?

haha perhaps

Ewwwww Enloe. I won't even respond to your thread because of this.

Eh, don't worry. I didn't have any math awards either. What branch of science are you most interested in? Maybe try to do a project over the summer about this?

Oh, and apply to SVSM.

yeah the school sucks.....
well i'm really interested in biology...
but i'm not sure how i would be able to do a project.

any suggestions?
thanks :)

decisions come out in less than two weeks! who applied? any CCers from NC?

bump... anyone?

Jesus, I didn't realize this thread was so old. Who applied? But here it is for anyone interested:

Congressional district? Wait, if you go to Enloe, you are in congressional district 4. I consider myself an expert on NCSSM (lol... more like obsessed. But I'm still nervous about myself.) CD 4 is often called the "valley of death" for NCSSM. They receive ~400 applicants for 26-32 spots. (Take that, Harvard.) NCSSM seems to be loving on the Enloe name though in admissions, but realize you will have Cal BC and probably Multi. v Cal applicants. Of course, your community service is a big plus. Look into online courses. Look into SVSM and RECAP for next summer.

Please note that NCSSM considers EC's from 7th-10th, but only grades from 9th-10th.

As for me, I'm in CD 3. 26-32/150 ftw!

I'm a rising Sophomore, what do you think?

nice stats!
i think you are pretty much in... esp since you are from dist. 3

Hah, I'm sitting in the lobby watching them stuff fat envelopes for the people that got in this year...

To those that get in.. I urge you to look up information about the school (this means don't listen to all the bs that the school tells you about itself and do some research on your own). NCSSM does a lot of public relations things designed to make it look better, whether it actually helps out the students or not.

And for those that choose to go here, if you pick the right classes (don't listen to the registrar) and take initiative, then you'll do well.

does that mean ncssm is not all that great? are you not having a good time there didnotfaillife?
