NCSU 2017 Early Action results

It’s better than being denied. You still have a chance, and they obviously see potential! I remember hearing that they deferred a lot of applicants last year too. It’s no fun waiting longer for an answer though. I wish all of you good luck.

NC State posted a blog last night about how to interpret decisions. Maybe it will offer some insight. Here’s the link:
[Decisions, Decisions… But What Do They Mean? - Admissions Blog](http://admissions.ncsu.edu/blogs/uncategorized/decisions-decisions-but-what-do-they-mean/)

Yesterday I was deferred by NCSU, but today I got accepted by Georgia Tech and deferred by MIT. And I’ve taken 10 AP courses(scores mostly 4s and 5s) and my SAT is far above State’s 75 percentile, not to mention my 3 SAT IIs with 750+, and my grades are majorly As… I still don’t know why I did not get accepted. Since state is big on sports, possibly because of my lack of sports involvement? Aside from this, yield protection (if it even exists) may be the only explanation.

What state do you live in?

My sons acceptance letter was dated the 11th.

@dowzerw

In-state. Though I am pretty sure I’ll get in during RD.

Hope you do! We are from out of state so odds go way down but DS really wants to do engineering and NCSU is high on his list.

It is frustrating that stronger schools render final decisions so late in the process while not so strong schools render early. He has been accepted by several “safeties”. It isnt fair to tie up a spot that could go to someone else but until the bigger universities finish their admissions processes, he is stuck. Also feel bad for the moderate schools-they have to staff up to process applications of so many who dont have them as first choice. Ah, well. Such is the way of things. Anyhow, good luck to you!

Hayley-thanks for the link to the blog. We missed that somehow. Congrats to you!

Son was accepted to College of Engineering – Industrial Engineering Intent. 3.7 unweighted GPA, 3.8 weighted GPA, 27 ACT, 1820 SAT (1270 Math/CR), many ECs including football and track/field.

Also applied for the Park Scholarship, but didn’t make the semifinalist round. It was worth a shot though!

My daughter was deferred. In-state. 4.6 weighted GPA/3.8 unweighted. Varsity sports. Good EC’s, etc. SAT was 1860. Undecided, so she applied to FYC.

I guess if we want proof that NCSU looks at the entire application instead of just stats, we have to look at the stats of the deferred and denied in comparison to those accepted. o.o I think I have a 3.7 weighted GPA(proof that I don’t care about stats? I’m not entirely certain what my GPA is XD), a 1950 SAT, decent EC’s, no sports, gap year study abroad. And I got in for anthropology.

I write really good essays. XD

Accepted

GPA = 3.7 UW

My son was deferred as well. 'Major bummer to us, as State is his first choice.

In State
Major-Industrial Engineering
Combined SAT 1830
GPA 4.1 W / 3.5 UW
Rigorous curriculum, including honors and AP; many ECs and volunteer/service.

Accepted

I’m really freaking out about being deferred, because if I am, I probably won’t get in because I took on a really tough schedule for my fall semester, and I’m struggling. I applied for Civil Engineering, and State is my first choice. :confused:

The only drawback to my application is my TERRIBLE SAT score (1140 combined R & M). I have a 3.7 UW GPA and a 4.6 W GPA, and I’m 10/193 in my class, with plenty of EC’s. People are telling me that I have an advantage by being African American, but I don’t think the Admissions Office will look past my horrible SAT score. I’m taking the test again in January, but the scores will not be in on time. Someone chance/help me?

Replied on your other thread. I think you will have a good chance but either way, work on having other options lined up.

Got in NCSU College of Engineering with Computer Science intent - In State. 2190 SAT, 4.5 GPA, musician, decent leadership and ECs. Took MAT 242 - Calc III thru NC State fall of Senior Year. Hope this helps others.

mustangmaniac.
Best to call admissions but I think that taking SAT in Jan your results will be considered. There will be time. You must concentrate on getting a better score.

Son accepted college of engineering. IB program, GPA UW 3.43, weighted 5.5, SAT 2000, ACT 31. Numerous EC including captain of swim team, state qualifier, all county team and Eagle Scout. Out of state. He didn’t get into MIT and was deferred by Ga Tech. Waiting for UF on 2/8. 5 other acceptances at lesser schools.

Accepted Elementary Ed!
