NCSU and Transferring

I was notified last night that I was accepted to NCSU for computer engineering. However, my goal is to not only become an engineer, but to further my education (i.e. Master's or Ph.D.)

Would my attendance at State be beneficial if my future goals are to attend a university such as Carnegie Mellon or MIT simply for undergrad? I have yet to apply to CMU, but I was denied admission to MIT (my assumption being that my school doesn't really offer any science, coding, or technology classes.) Or, if I stay all four years at NCSU, would I be able to attend MIT or a similar top-tier university?

Thanks, all.

NCSU is mainly a math and science school, and they’re well-known for their engineer program. If I were smart enough to be an engineer, that’d be my top choice. But yes, it is a good school to continue your education. Unless you want to aim higher and choose UNC or Duke. I don’t really know about the other schools you listed, so I can’t comment on those. Good luck!

I would have to disagree with uncomprehended with one things. UNC is not a better school for engineering and they are not ABET accredited for most engineering disciplines. Duke is slightly higher ranked than NC State in engineering (25 vs. 28 I think) but the cost difference is monumental.

I think that if you did lots of undergraduate research and made great grades, going to NC State would not hinder a successful hunt for a graduate education.

Actually, Duke doesn’t even offer computer engineering (as far as I know), but from what I understand, their engineering program isn’t quite on par with State’s. I could be mistaken, but that’s my understanding.

I only know their overall undergraduate engineering ranking. Either way, I think NC State is your best bet.
