Son deferred. 1530 SAT. 3.9 GPA which is not ideal but bad Covid year at a super competitive private school. Job. Entrepreneur. Engineering. In state.
Nephew deferred as well. Not sure what addl materials we can send in.
Thank you for that perspective. I wonder what qualifies as âgoodâ senior year grades these days. My studentâs semester ended yesterday. Heâll have 6 As and 2 Bs. One B is in an AP class and the other is in an Honors class. He has three additional AP classes in which heâs earned As and one IB class with an A. I used to think those were âgoodâ but with competition so fierce, Iâm less sure. It seems like Bs really drag one down.
Deferred.
In-state.

Does anyone know the deferred acceptance rate for NCSU?
That stinks! I hope she gets in later!
Sounds like similar situation to my daughter in regards to deferral. She was more confused because several of her friends with lesser stats were admitted yesterday.
The adage 5-10 years ago was if you got all As (maybe a couple of Bs over 4 years if your record was otherwise strong), you would get into UNC. If you got 1 B per year, you would get into State. Any more Bs than that and you were looking at Charlotte/ECU/Wilmington/App st.
It appears that grade inflation/competition has driven that bar up. The only thing my DD could have done was hop on the DE train earlier - she didnât start until last year. The classes she has taken so far at Wake Tech are far easier than her AP classes, yet have the same weighting. She and my oldest son have the same GPA, 4.55. He was 27th in his class of 620 (2019). She is 100th in her class of 475 (both Western Wake schools - similar demographics).

I go to Green Level too, and I know a stupidly proportioned class rank to GPA when i see one. Iâm sooo mad at state for taking into consideration class rank so much. Iâm pretty sure that to have a decent chance you gotta be top 20% class rank or maybe higher.
I have really similar stats to you and got deferred from state too

LOCI is not required, nor recommended for NCSU.
This isnât true.
So many factors at play. If youâve got an 90+ average, and have participated in various extra curricular activities, and youâve got a nice fit with what major youâre applying to, then tell your story and explain in your questions and answers why NC State offers you a great place to grow as a person. Then see what happens.
You might find out you get in. This is why you also have safeties that you should also love. These types of posts only serve to discourage great kids from taking their chances to go to a great university â donât listen to this crap if youâre a student reading this.
Sure, NC State is a competitive university with a 40-55% acceptance rate â and yes Engineering, Math, CS will be super competitive (ANYWHERE) but donât let the chance me rockstars here discourage you. If you are a good, mostly A student, with a great story to tell â go for it.
My son was deferred last year. His counselor wrote him a new recommendation letter. He also sent in updated activities/loc. I donât know if those played a part in his decision, but he was accepted in regular decision. Good luck!
Am I the only one who hasnât gotten an admissions decision yet?
