Was anyone else nominated for this?

Although there is no monetary award, it seems relatively selective, since my school (3200 people) was only allowed 5 slots, and only 25% of nominees actually get the award.

Have any of you won this award? If so, could you provide some more details on what they're looking for? Thanks.

Here's the link for the award website: http://www.ncte.org/about/awards/student/aa

I won last year.

As far as what they're looking for...I guess I'm not really sure. There's a timed essay, and I didn't think mine was very good. The topics are kind of a crapshoot--my friend who won in 2003 had a really good topic, and ours were like, teenage obesity or cell phones. It's really the luck of the draw as far as that goes.

For the supplemental writing sample, I used a paper I wrote for junior English about The Great Gatsby. I thought it was the best thing I'd written that year, and I'd be willing to PM it to you if you wanted.

Congrats,

I just found out today that I was nominated. The website says that each school gets 1 nominee for every 500 applicants.
