ND chances

My D is first in her class at all-girls Catholic school, gpa 4.381 w; 4.0 u; 33 ACT; captain of varsity swim team and competitive swimmer for over 10 years, scholarship to ND vision last summer, 200+ community service (hospital volunteer, donating swim lessons to at-risk children, tutoring in math clinic she founded at school.). More APs than most classmates at school (7); pre-med. No legacy or other hooks. Fought for the 33 so I don’t think she could go up another point like someone else did after they were deferred. Can’t tell if she’s generic or has a chance?

She definitely has a chance. I think the Vision experience may be helpful. Does her school typically send a few students to ND? Did she apply REA? I think her essays, particularly “Why ND,” will be important.

Yes, a few are selected - some are elite athletes others just good students. She is also VP of medical club, some 5’s on AP exams, wins math awards every year, other distinctions from archdicese, etc. She did apply REA feeling this is the best her profile will ever be. They will see that she has highest gpa in grade though her school doesn’t rank. She loves ND - wrote about her faith and fulfilling her purpose there for why ND essay. I don’t know what more she could have done in high school - took most rigorous schedule, up at 4:30 am for double swim practices for 4 years until a few days ago. Smarter moms sent their kids to multiple ND summer programs. We though Vision would be great grounding experience before college mania set in - and here we are!

I don’t think that sending kids to multiple ND summer programs will matter, tbh. The vast majority who are admitted did not attend a summer program there. I think attending one can help with the essays, but it’s not necessary, and it’s definitely not necessary to send them to multiple programs. Best of luck to your D. Less than a month now!

Thank you!
