@NDHopeful2017, I would be happy that you got deferred and not rejected. Admissions is tough this year, and on the page behind you, someone got deferred with a 35 (ridiculous!) btw @katiebug153 what was ur UW GPA? It looks like you were a great applicant

@NDHopeful2017 btw that sounded bad after typing it out! Didn’t mean to be offensive! keep working hard, you can get in RD by boosting that ACT a couple points!

@cengel1996 UW is 3.68 so that could have been a problem

IrishCalifMama: Your daughter sounds incredible. She was deferred, which is very discouraging, but ND is quite particular in the Early Round. Last year at my daughter’s school a girl was deferred at ND who was one of the top girls at the school…got into ND RD, and also got into Stanford, Harvard, Brown, and other top schools. So please tell her to not lose hope. Have her talk to her GC. Maybe she could email regional rep to see if there’s anything she can do to make her case better. Could be the SAT score. Could she retake or take the ACT? Could she resubmit an essay? I have an inkling that at ND, choosing a topic that lets the student show how they meet the mission of the school makes the most impact there. Might not be anything needed either, your daughter could just be like the girl we know, and there’s no really good explanation. In any event, your daughter is going to have some fantastic options. I wouldn’t be surprised to see ND among them in RD.

IrishCali–I know exactly what you mean!–our DD was flat out rejected and her SATs were higher than your DD’s-2100, unweighted GPA is a perfect 4.0–every Pre-AP class our school offers (what our school calls the honors/more rigorous classes) and 9 AP classes-she’s never had a B on her report card in her life, National Merit Scholar, AP Scholar,NHS, NLatinHS, NArtHS, selected for Women in Science/Engineering Program with global company, honored by the county as one of their top youth, has 5 extra high school classes-took 3 in middle school and 2 of the BS mandatory classes online so she could continue in Art and Music as well as all the Calc and Physics, etc…gifted in Art and Music as well as math and science, major community service work training therapy dogs and working with retired veterans and literacy with children, catholic, lead singer in youth band in youth group–this is only a small percentage of what she’s done. So how is she not what ND is looking for? BTW–she is white and goes to school at a large public school in Northern Virginia–top 1% in her class of 570.

The only thing I can think of that actually worked against her is the fairly new catholic high school in our same town–betting they took a few from there and left out the public school kids??? Luckily for us DD hadn’t been counting on ND and knows she will be happy at any of the schools she has applied to. But still…

My son heard back from ND, and they told him that they had the most EA applicants they’ve ever had, and deferred 1,000 students! They did tell us earlier that EA is the most competitive pool of applicants, and with a larger pool to choose from, it was even tougher to get in. He told DS that many students, like him, that would have been accepted in the past were deferred.

Bottom line, don’t lose hope! Keeps these kids away from the senior slide :-)

Sent from my SGH-T769 using CC

@ McMomma- How many EA applicants did they have? And how many were accepted/deferred/rejected?
