I'm a second-semester female student at the University of Missouri. I'm planning on applying to transfer to the University of Notre Dame for the Fall 2013 semester. Here's all my info:

Current major: Broadcast Journalism

GPA: 3.84

HS GPA: 3.55

ACT: 28

ND Legacy (1 father, 2 siblings)

Intend to apply to the College of Arts and Science at Notre Dame majoring in Film, Television, and Theatre

I have all the required credits except for 1 Math course which I intend to take at a community college if I'm admitted

Involved in a multitude of activities throughout high school and college (ex. HS: musical theatre, choir, yearbook, newspaper, outreach etc. College: sorority, various academic clubs related to my major, club volleyball etc.)

I've grown up with Notre Dame since the day I was born. I didn't apply last year because I didn't think my GPA and ACT would be high enough. Also, I truly believed that Mizzou was the right choice for me since it has the top journalism school in the nation. However, after visiting the University of Notre Dame several times these past few months, something in my heart keeps telling me daily that Notre Dame is truly the right place for me (academically, socially, and spiritually). All in all, what do you think my chances are of getting in?

I am a parent of a ND first year student; by no means an expert on transferring to ND but I can offer you two pieces of advice. First, contact your regional rep and ask him/her if you are on the right path. Check the first year studies website for ND and make sure you are taking the core requirements needed to be a strong transfer applicant. Your current college gpa is very strong; at this point I would assume that would carry more weight then your high school gpa or test scores. Good luck and Go Irish!

Thank you so much for the advice! I’ve already emailed the ND admissions counselor with all the classes that I’ve taken and intend to take this semester. I’ve made sure that I’ve followed the First Year of Studies curriculum as best as I could. She emailed back and told me all my classes look okay except for the 1 math course which shouldn’t be a problem since I can take it over the summer. With my college GPA and all the required courses except one, do you think I’m a very strong candidate for admission?

I’m in pretty much exactly the same situation as you. I’m a legacy through my father, I had an ok HS GPA at 3.4, I’ve got a 4.0 at Clemson University currently, and all of my ND-required classes except for one math class, which I will also be taking over the summer. I know the average collegiate GPA for last transfer class was 3.69, but you probably already saw that. I also would recommend you be sure to clear your summer class with the admissions office, because they are pretty picky about which schools they accept courses from. I do know from a lot of research that it really makes no difference to your admission chances if you take one class over the summer. According to a few counselors, if you have the bulk of your ND prerequisites complete when you submit your application, missing one class doesn’t affect your chances at all as long as you indicate that you plan to complete it before you enroll in the fall.

Hit me up if you find anything out or have any questions. I have a feeling I’m just as nervous as you are.

I’m also applying as a hopeful fall transfer! I was waitlisted last year and am now a freshman at Villanova.

3.7 HS GPA, 3.87 College GPA, 2190/1420 SAT, Legacy. If I’m accepted, I’ll have to take a math and science class over the summer but I’ve gotten two courses approved at my local JC by the Admissions Counselor.

I was also waitlisted last fall and looking to transfer in as a sophomore next year. I had 4.11 high school GPA, 3.7 college GPA and a 32 ACT. I hope I am accepted as well as all of you!

Hi everyone, I am a current freshman at DePaul University and I applied to transfer to Notre Dame as a sophomore in the fall for economics. My college GPA is a 3.55 (because I got a C in Microeconomics). I visited the school the other day and I loved it and I met with a director for undergraduate admissions to introduce myself, ask questions, and say some reasons why I want to transfer. My GPA should be able to increase to at least a 3.65 after my final trimester. I also emailed a Notre Dame admissions representative to include a personal issue that has occurred to met his academic year.

My courses include (all 4 credits):
2 Writing Courses - A’s in both
1 University Seminar - taking this now
2 math courses (Calc1 & Calc2) - A in Calc2, A- in Calc1
1 Philosophy Course - B+
2 Biology Courses - taking both now
1 International Relations Course - B+
2 Econ courses (micro & macro) - taking now

ACT Score: 28

I am also am involved with 3 clubs and I had an internship this past winter break. Moreover, my recommendations (from high school counselor, college professor, and high school teacher) are stellar since I have very good relations with them.

Side note that may or not be important:
single mom with triplets (1 is at Cornell, the other is at Johns Hopkins)
out of state student from Florida
I will be sending a final report in the middle of June since I end June 13th because I am on a trimester schedule.
I was selected to do an economics reunion program for a week in DC this summer.
I visited Notre Dame and personally met with an admissions and rep and have emailed them.

Hey guys! I have applied for transfer to ND as well - can’t wait to get the decision in a few short weeks! I’ll hopefully be entering ND in the fall of 2013 as a junior in the College of Arts and Letters, studying psychology. I have taken all the classes that ND requires, and I have spoken with the admissions coordinator multiple times about my transfer credits and general application. Here are my stats:

High school:
4.39 GPA (weighted)
4th in my class
2150 SAT
29 ACT
7 AP classes, 4’s and 5’s on all of them
several honors societies, academic decathlon, newspaper editor, campus ministry team, volleyball

College (currently a sophomore at Boston University):
3.65 GPA - after this semester is over that will most likely be 3.71
Dean’s List each semester
two part time on campus jobs (one in the Development/Alumni Relations office and the other is in the Housing department - roughly 25 hours a week total)
volleyball, community service (teaching health class at inner city high schools), National Society of Collegiate Scholars and gospel choir.

Other notes:
I don’t have a letter of recommendation because my professor was hospitalized about 2 weeks before the app was due, but when I called the admissions office they explained that my dean had already informed them of the situation and that I needn’t worry, because a reference letter isn’t a mandatory part of the transfer application. Still, I figured it might hurt my chances b/c pretty much everyone else has them, right?

I’m a legacy (grandfather, dad, brother, two cousins, three aunts/uncles)
I was raised by a single mother (hoping that helps on the financial aid side)
and lastly I was waitlisted when I applied in high school.

Hey guys, I just got accepted into the College of Arts and Letters today and I wanted to give you guys my stat sheet so maybe you can get an idea of what they’re looking for.

-3.4 High School GPA
-4.0 Collegiate GPA (Clemson University, South Carolina)
-Honors College at Clemson
-Rigorous Liberal Arts Course Load (34 Credits)
-English and Philosophy Major (PLS and English Major at ND)
-2270 SAT (800 Critical Reading, 740 Math, 730 Writing)

Congrats irish transfer!! That is so awesome! I have a few questions for you. Is your semester over/ do you think they had your final grades when they made your decision? Did you have a 4.0 for both semesters? Also, how did they notify you?

I got in! I received my acceptance yesterday afternoon via email. Because I am changing addresses three times this summer I specially requested that they notify me by email. The email said I could expect my packet in the mail in the next few days.

Also, my acceptance is contingent upon my successful completion of two summer school courses - one math and one science. This is manageable, but confusing because I sent in my course descriptions of all my classes before I registered for them, and I was told that all four of my math/science classes were transferable. I responded back to the man who sent me my acceptance email and asked about this, and he replied that he would look into the matter for me. We’ll see what happens!

But I’m so happy!! It’s such a strange feeling, getting everything you’ve worked so hard for. Has anyone else heard back yet?

Somehow I got in…! I’m honestly really surprised. I have a 3.2 GPA (Granted at a top tier university) and I was deferred EA, waitlisted, and extended waitlisted last year.

My only issue is that I have to take Orgo I this summer and get at least a B in it, but the problem is I’m having trouble finding a school that will take me this late into summer session that even offers it near where I live.

yeah they told me I had to take summer classes too. I asked about online classes, and they said that it must be the typical lecture/lab format.

Also, when I was registering for classes I sent over my course descriptions of all my math and science classes and all four of them got approved. now that I’m accepted, apparently two of the four don’t count? I emailed them and kind of appealed their request to make me take summer classes - hopefully I won’t have to take anything! I should hear back sometime today or tomorrow. It sounds like they’re making a lot of people take classes this summer! oh well - it’s worth it :)

I’m in! Still pretty much in shock, but a truly unbelievable feeling. I also have to take a math class (even though I thought I’d have to take both a math and a science class, but I’m not complaining!). Stats for anyone who’s interested:

3.71 HS GPA (weighted)
3.87 College GPA at Villanova University
2190/1420 SAT
31 ACT
Waitlisted last year and then put on an extended waitlist of 75 people
Legacy
A bunch of ECs that everyone who applies to ND has lol

I got the big envelope via snail mail yesterday afternoon. Best of luck to everyone still waiting and congrats to those already accepted!
