Near Eastern Studies/Islamic Studies

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for grad schools that have solid programs in Islamic studies, and have faculty who are specialized in Islamic law.

The Professors that I’ve come across are: Dr Hallaq at Columbia, Dr Lowry at UPenn, Dr Shamsy at U Chicago, Dr Opwis at Georgetown, and Dr Jackson at USC.

Any other programs/professors? Thanks for your help!

I moved this to the graduate school forum since you’re looking into MA/PhD programs. Have you tried the MESA directory? There’s a list of people working in Islamic law.

All of the usual suspects for Islamic studies are likely worth a look (NYU, UT Austin, UCLA, Harvard, etc.).

Thanks warblersrule, the link was extremely helpful. I’m surprised to see so many specialists in the field!
