Nearing the end of my 20s. Trying to get my life together (MUSIC SCHOOL HELP)

So i’ll start by saying i’m 27. I have an associates degree (vocal performance from Musicians Institute in Hollywood.

After a long time of working the LA club grind and deciding it was not what i wanted to do, I decided i wanted to pursue my passion of recording, songwriting and the “studio thing”, and go back to school. I was older, maybe a bit wiser and reading to focus on my education and pursuing life goals.

So i was wondering if anyone might be able to give me some ideas for CONTEMPORARY (rock, pop, etc.) music schools, that are NOT MI or Berklee (even with a degree and a previous acceptances, i didn’t get in this go-round…sigh)

Would prefer schools that also have some sort of (music) journalism major, and/or a radio (station or major) as those are two other passions of mine, and i don’t want to focus too much and completely cut out other possible options. Appreciate any help you might have to offer!

Maybe look at Columbia College in Chicago. UMass Lowell. Hartt ?? Belmont and USC will be suggested by many, along with the two you don’t want mentioned

You might want to look in to Drexel’s music industry major. It has its own record label and radio station. Good music scene in Philly. Belmont would be another possibility, it’s in Nashville and has songwriting, recording/engineering, commercial vocal performance, and music business programs.

Well since you are already here in So Cal. —look at Cal State Northridge. They have a good Music Industry Studies option. It’s affordable and connected.

Check out Middle Tennessee State, it definitely has the recording and songwriting as well as its own radio station. There are tracks in both the School of Mass Communications and the School of Music that might interest you.

These are all very helpful suggestions. Thank you everyone.
