<p>SAN DIEGO -- Authorities say nearly 100 students have been arrested at San Diego State University on drug-related charges.</p>
<p>Drugs, cash and guns were seized from sellers and buyers in the bust that followed a five-month undercover operation.</p>
<p>The San Diego County district attorney's office says the 96 arrests include fraternity members. Defendants are scheduled to appear in state court to face charges Tuesday afternoon.</p>

<p>It is well known that drugs are rampant in college campuses across the country. I know all parents (including me) think "not my child" ....but for those of us sending our kids away for the first time, this certainly does not help to diminish our anxiety.</p>
<p>I think the kids who go to college and drink and party to excess were the ones who A)were party people already or B) whose parents kept them under lock and key. </p>
<p>If your child made a conscience choice not to drink to excess and party like an animal in high school (and let's assume that they had opportunity but CHOSE not to), then when they get to college, they have their head on straight and continue to make good choices. </p>
<p>The kids whose parents hovered like there was no tomorrow are (IMO) the ones who are going to get to college and do all stuff they couldn't do at home.</p>

<p>I know students who did choose not to use drugs in h.s., but changed in college. One simply can't predict what students will do in new environments.</p>

<p>Wow, fraternity kids with drugs? Shocking. Not. What a bunch of morons. We don't need people like that running the world in the future.</p>

<p>Here, here! I'm all for these mothers' pointless aggression toward these unknown drug users, especially those marijuana smokers! Why would those kids put their lives on the line by smoking marijuana!? They should use safer, legal drugs, like adderall, hydrocodon, or xanax. I mean, at least those drugs are legal and therefore harmless and unable to be abused.</p>
<p>Tens - hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of drugs, cash AND FIREARMS. This wasn't a few kids having fun - this was a major operation.</p>
<p>I wonder what this will do to SDSU's USNews ranking? Or wait - I don't think US News takes major drug deals into account... just important stats like the percentage of alumni who donate. lol.</p>
<p>Rlh, those drugs are legal only if the prescription is for YOU. And they are of the class that make a lot of doctors think twice about prescribing. If you are caught with any those without a legal scrip for them,you are going to be in trouble. Because those drugs can be dangerous, it is really a serious problem with kids who have the scrips selling them to others. </p>
<p>THe problem with marijuana is first and foremost that it is illegal. That also puts it into the class of the cocaine, guns and drug dealers that were somehow on the scene with the pot. There are going to be some kids who will be losing financial aid eligibility and they may also get thrown out of school for this. Not to mention that they are going to have to go through the expensive and painful legal paces. If they get this on their record, they are out as far as a number of careers and jobs go as well. Not worth it.</p>
