I just got back my SAT II results from June, and saw that I got great scores: a 760 in Literature and a 780 in Math II. I also have really strong SATs: a 2360. I'm done with testing, except for one problem: I took the SAT Chemistry subject test last year and got a 620. I have enough scores for the schools I'm looking at - none require 3 subject tests. But if there is a school that doesn't use score choice, will that 620 in Chemistry hurt me? I really can't retake it again; I took AP Chem this year and took a practice test to see, but I got a 630 - not much of an improvement. Will it hurt me, or will school just look it over as a blip?

So basically if you have your two other subject tests in the bag that score isn’t going to hurt you. For the schools that don’t use school choice - don’t worry too much about it. The school WANTS to take your highest scores because if you’re admitted it makes THEM look good. They’re not going to want to incorporate the unnecessary 620 because 1. it’s unnecessary 2. it doesn’t make them look as good.

This is the impression that I’ve been given regarding scores/score choice/meeting a score requirement/additional scores/etc. some schools may have different practice but the above makes the most sense.

Best of luck, well done!

Okay, thanks! So they’ll basically disregard it? If it makes any difference, I’m “selling” myself as a humanities student, not a science student, so it’s not like I’m applying as a chemistry major or anything. I’m also waiting on my Chem AP score, and I hopefully got at least a 4, so that might balance out the 620.

No offense, but your scores are hardly “nearly perfect”. And I would retake Chem.

^^^Yeah they are.

I fail to see how your scores are nearly perfect.

i mean they’re not going to disregard it COMPLETELY… but it’s not going to be the thing that makes or breaks your acceptance by any means…

(someone correct me if i’m off base here!)

^ 1 is 40 points away, 1 is 20 points away, and the SAT I is 40 points away

Thats pretty close to perfect

Ditto. ^ Exactly, 40 points away isn’t “nearly perfect”. If the scores were 2380, 780, 790, 790, then that would be nearly perfect. The OP’s scores are not.

The OP said nearly perfect record of scores, not nearly perfect scores. Which is perfectly right in that all scores are good except the 620.

I agree with gc414; the 620 shouldn’t make or break anything.

Sure sounds like CC in here. Why you would choose to call this to attention or dwell on it is beyond me.

OP, since most schools only require two subject tests, they will only consider the 760 and 780. Your scores are nearly perfect, so I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

Don’t sweat it! It will be fine, it definitely won’t cause a denial
