Necessary to report all AP scores?

I didn't do too well on two APs I took. They're not terrible scores, but certainly nothing to boast of. Is it necessary to report all AP scores received on the common app? Won't schools be curious as to why I didn't report several AP scores even though my transcript shows I took the courses? And will colleges look down upon receiving mediocre scores and take it into consideration for admission? Thanks!

Not all kids take the AP Test, even if they took the AP Class. Most schools do not REQUIRE you to report AP scores, so you can selectively self report. If you are interviewed, be prepared to be asked the question.

Yes - AP exams are the only way you can really confirm that you’ve earned your stellar (or mediocre!) grades in AP classes. If I had a 98/A+ in my APUSH class (which I did), but got a 4 on the exam, adcoms would wonder if I’m really an A+ APUSH student, and not really an A-/B+ student. People on these forums like to play them down, but they do in fact matter. I’ve asked several adcoms on college visits this question and virtually all of said that they matter for the sake of reviewing your transcript and actual abilities (and the transcript is hands down the most important key to admissions).

As long as you’ve passed (3+), I wouldn’t see the harm in sending them (unless you had like A+s in your classes, which would raise red flags).
