I'm applying to schools like Villanova, BC, & Lehigh on the Common App. Do I HAVE to self report my SAT & ACT scores, or can I just send them directly from the testing agencies? If I choose not to send my SAT/ACT scores, can I still just self report my AP scores?

If the college is not test-optional, what is the downside of self-reporting? They will get the scores eventually.

The self reporting section is entirely optional. You should self-report APs, or at least your good AP scores, because schools don’t require those official reports for admission. You can self report SATs or ACTs or not, your choice. If you think a different approach is better at different school, you can also change the way you self report from one school to the next.

@ niceday: Please clarify “you can also change the way you self report from one school to the next”…I thought the purpose of the Common Application is that you only complete this application once and ALL the school you selected would receive the exact same thing? Also, should I self report an AP score of a 3? or just skip it? Thanks!

Generally, you will want to self report a 3.

It is possible (and normal) to send the identical version to all schools, but the app can also be modified between submissions, if you so choose.
