need a bit of help in starting a scholarship foundation

I'm interested in starting a scholarship foundation for students wishing to attend college in pakistan. Considering the literacy rate is 51% and since I have relatives there, I thought this is probably a good idea. I've read that some people have done this at their own schools and they've been quite successful. This is something I really want to do :D So, how should I go about doing this?:D

Get a large amount of money.

hah :P Getting the money shouldn't be the problem- i've had experience with that sort of stuff. it's organizing it that will be tricky :

Wow, this sounds like a really ambitious project! To start off, you need reliable contacts in Pakistan. You need to be able to ensure your donors that the money will go where it's supposed to go, so your contact needs to be official/trustworthy enough for this. So you couldn't do this entirely through your relatives, but perhaps they can help you find someone. Once you had a liaison in Pakistan, you would need to work with him/her to determine how many students you want to help, how much money that would require, and how the students would be chosen. Think about how much say in the process you would be comfortable with, and how to make sure the selection is fair. Also, you'd need to decide how you would let students know about the opportunity to get scholarships when they become available.
When you do all that, you can start doing publicity here, attracting potential donors, doing fundraisers, etc. But you say that should be easy for you, so I won't go into details.
Good luck!

As an afterthought- you might be wondering what authority I am speaking from. A few years ago, I tried to organize something similar to this in Ukraine. (I have relatives there and the economic situation is desperate) The main challenge was finding someone in Ukraine who would ensure that the money I raised would be used for the right purposes instead of just disappearing.
I wasn't able to do that, so instead, I joined a foundation that works with local programs to help teenage girls. We give grants to various organizations, and we've really made an impact. If your Pakistan idea doesn't work out, I would suggest trying to make a difference locally, because it's much easier logistically. I have a lot more info that might help, so if you have any more questions, ask away. Let me know how your project goes :)

Best might be to hook up with some reputable agency in Pakistan and start a chapter here.

Indians have started it. Go to www.Pratham.org. It takes lot more than money.

If you are wanting to do this to pad resume, don't do it. People will see through a half assed effort.
