Need a bit of help

Hello everyone, I'm about to become a Junior in my high school in 2 weeks, but i need help on looking into my future. I heard people say that I should start looking at college stuffs and get more prepared. The issue here is that I have no idea where to start. I would like hints from you professionals.

Another HUGE conflict I'm having are my grades. In freshmen year, I got a 3.5 GPA, which is bad enough already. In my sophomore year, I slacked off majorly and got a 2.4 GPA on my final report card. I know this is a big issue, but did I just screwed myself over? I had one and only AP class during sophomore year, which is the World History AP. I failed the class, also got a 1 on the AP exam. My GPA already hurt my chance of going into a college, but will this kill me even more?

Can any professionals give me some hints or tips on what I can do? The upcoming junior year I'm going to kick my butt and work hard, but I fear that all will be waste because of my sophomore year. Let's for example, say I want to get enrolled into UCLA, what should i do? I'm at the point where I'm literally driven crazy and desperate. If and only if I had a time mahine.

And to add insult to the injury, I failed one of the most easiest elective course, Band.

Also, how hard will the SAT/ACT/CST hit me?

Thank you all for your valuable time! Unfortunately I don't know which forum to put this in as this seems the most appropriate section to post. Please let me know if I put this thread in the wrong forum.

First of all, relax. You’re right to be concerned, but all is not lost.

You are in a very good position, compared to a lot of posters who have finished their junior years and are just now waking up to the fact that grades do matter. You have your junior year ahead of you, with a chance to make a good record. While colleges will consider your sophomore year, many will consider what you did as a junior far more important.

So bear down this year and get good grades. Don’t obsess over the ACT/SAT; take them once early on, and if you’re not satisfied with your scores, get a prep book, study it, and take them again.

And once more - relax. Do well this year, and you will be a good candidate for many fine colleges.
