So far I have applied to:
GA Tech
University of Maryland
University of Illinois-UC - applied to both LAS and CoE
UT Austin
University of Washington
Purdue (already accepted)
University of Delaware (in state)
Im going for Computer Science (CS from now on) and these schools are mostly super hard to get into with my stats for CS as it is a hugely desired major, here are my stats:
UW GPA: 3.55
SAT: 750CR, 680M, 590W (pains me to have not been able to break 600 on writing)
ECs:
NHS
Founder and President of my schools CS club
Robotics club member
Engineering club member
Model UN Treasurer,
Student Gov, medium level i would call it
Rugby, JV/Varsity Captain
150ish community service hours and counting
Anyways I’ve taken fairly hard classes to get where my UW Gpa is in comparison to what my school offers. Im in AP Calc AB where only 10% of my entire school even makes it there, then promptly drops out of it, same with AP Physics. Anyways I need a few more match schools to choose from. I was going to apply to more safety schools but with the Purdue acceptance so early I don’t need to, will use that as my backup. I feel like if I applied to a bunch of those schools listed above in a different major I could get in, but not for CS. I feel like I need some schools just above Maryland on the scale, if not on the same level.
Thanks!
Additional choices should depend on what you are interested in studying beyond CS and on what type of college environment you are looking for in general. For the time being, the academically strong University of Rochester may be one school to consider.
These are all public schools. Sometimes it’s difficult to get good financial aid at public schools at which you are a nonresident. Is money a concern for your family?
No money is not a concern, my family is very fortunate to be able to afford them. I was told I have to pay for a year, so I actually have to work for it. I would like a medium-large school, state of residency is listed but its Delaware so I live in the only state where in state tuition doesn’t get me anything unless I want to go into chemistry. Other interests would be anything engineering related or possibly business. Also Rochester looks to be very hard to get into, why did you list merc81 it if I may ask?
You have quite a bit going for you, @Sniksder16, so the suggestion of U of R was in recognition of that. One of your stated criteria, as well, was that you were looking for a school that was somewhat more competitive than the also excellent Maryland. As it turns out, Rochester could be an excellent choice for engineering or business. Lastly, private schools should not be overlooked, and your current list consists entirely of public universities.
The other bright spot for the OP is that many schools, especially STEM programs, throw out the SAT W score entirely and do not consider it for admissions at all. That is obviously to your advantage!
Look at UNC Wilmington. Medium-sized school, great CS program, better overall school than your flagship as well. Fantastic location just five miles from the beach, amazing people. You’d love it here.
