Need a higher act score.

I previously took the Act in April 2017 without studying at all and got a 22. I’m now going to take it again and i need at least a 26-27. My biggest problem is Math and science I need to find good study sites to help me get a better score. I have to take this test on Sep 9 which isn’t much time to prepare but I’m graduating a year early so this should be my junior year but its my senior year instead. So if I don’t take it in September the scores wont be back in time to apply to the college I want to apply to. I have an okay Gpa 4.89 weighted. But the college i want to go to has an score range of 25-30

The Real ACT Guide, I think it’s called, look on Amazon – it’s colloquially known as “the red ACT book.” It’s helped tons of kids. Good luck!

Thank you, I already have the study guide but I didn’t really see any improvement from using that or not. Do you know of any good online sites that could help?

I’ve heard good things about Magoosh. It’s online, inexpensive, and guarantees a four point increase. I have no experience with it, though.

IMO the best idea is just to take as many practice tests as you can. After you’ve taken a lot you’ll realize a lot of the questions are similar and you’ll naturally get better.

PrepScholar has some nice online resources. You’d have to talk to your parents to decide whether or not to pony up the money for their actual course, which seems to get good reviews.

I swear by crack act. c o m and Khan Academy(even for act prep). Just take a lot of practice tests and go over every question you got wrong.

(I got a 36 on the first try, but that came from a 32 on my first practice test.) For english, I recommend familiarizing yourself with grammar rules and maybe looking around online for tip articles (articles that say stuff like, “don’t choose the redundant answer”). I could try my best to list tips like that, but I’m sure that there’s an article somewhere that’s less likely to leave something out, so again, google it. For math, look up a list of ACT math formulas, make flashcards, and study those. For reading, there are a few different strategies to use and what works for me may not work for you. You could try reading the whole passage then answering the questions, or reading the questions then reading the passage, or something in between. But figuring it out will require trial and error. For science, I liked to read the questions before reading the situation described so that I would know what to pay attention to, but like the reading section, this strategy may not be perfect for you.

Aside from all of that, I believe that the best way to perfect your score is to take practice tests. The ACT company sells a book with actual, accurate, realistic tests, but you should probably be able to find some free tests to print out online if you don’t want to buy that book. From there, try to take a test 1-2 times a week. Review the test, write the questions that you missed in a notebook, and write down why you missed it (ex: I read too fast and missed a detail, I didn’t know how to factor this, etc.). This way, you’ll be less likely to keep making the same mistakes. Then, every few days, review the notebook. Work some of the questions, especially math.
