Need a list of schools

I'm a Currently a junior with a 3.5 gpa.. My sat was 1830... I've taken numerous honors classes and will be taking a tough senior schedule next year... Also, my school has been making a big deal about being a California distinguished school( honestly don't know if this makes any difference to colleges.) I'm looking at state school and possibly privates, preferably in a larger city

My current college list is :
Uc Santa cruz
Csu long beach
Sdsu
NYU
Csu Chico

I'm open to advice... And open to recommendations for more colleges

What is your SAT breakdown?

What is your likely major? likely career?

How much will your parents pay?

I’m looking to major In international business or international affairs.
My parents are willing to pay just around 20k for tuition.

The CA threads have some great info. for you. I don’t know enough about most of your schools, other than I love UCSC  (go banana slugs!), so here’s the link:

Bump…

NYU is going to be a reach and it is very expensive. The public universities in California will offer you the best value.

NYU will not be affordable. NYU will expect you to pay all costs…and it costs about $60k per year. They don’t give good aid, and you don’t have the stats for a scholarship.

Affordable schools for you will likely be your CSUs and UCs. With your parents’ money and a Student loan and maybe some summer job money, then a UC should be affordable.

Are you going to test again?

Sonoma State would be a good safety, and maybe look at UC Riverside. I think Fiske guides puts out a book on the CA schools. That may help you more. You are very lucky to live in a state with so many great public colleges. You have lots of options and your list is a good one so far. But take out NYU (too expensive of a reach) and replace with UC Irvine or Davis as a reach school? Start working on the 1,000 word essay for UC schools this summer! (I love Harry Bauld’s book, On Writing the College Application Essay for learning what NOT to write). Are you taking any SAT II subject tests? You still have this summer to get in some more community service, and other fluffing ECs, so take advantage of the time you have left. Good luck!
