Need a little help with finding the right college.

Hi. I'm looking to go to school for a degree in costume design. Right now I'm having a tough time finding a college in the south or southwest (I live in Texas) that offers that type of degree plan. I can find colleges that offer fashion design majors, but fashion design and merchandising is not really the career path I'm interested in. I love making costumes and want to have a focus on the stage or screen.

I had heard the University of Central Florida had an actual costume design program, but I've yet to find any actual information on it. I sent an email asking if they offer that major and the response was a simple yes they did, but I've yet to receive any type of clarification on what the degree program for it is. As far as I can tell right now UCF does not offer a costume design degree.

I've looked into technical schools like the Art Institute of Dallas, but they seem to only offer fashion and merchandising degree plans. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

FIDM [Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising] has several campuses in California - you might want to look into that. If I'm correct, it has a good focus for costume design.

Not the south/southwest, but I believe Carnegie Mellon has what you are looking for.

^ Agreed, pretty selective design program though.

Try University of Houston or Houston Community College. They both work with the theater district in Houston and the opera and ballet. Good luck!
