Hi guys :) So, I'm looking into visiting and possibly applying to FIU(Florida International University). I'm 22 years old from Virginia. After a few years of being a caregiver to my sick sister and mom I'm ready to venture out and look for a complete change of scenery/location. I am aware that FIU is a long long way from Virginia but I am mature and feel like I can handle the distance.I've been researching the school to the best of my ability and the diversity and location is very appealing to me. However, some of the reviews I've read mentioned that the students aren't friendly and that most of the population is Spanish-speaking which is not a huge surprise. I'm very friendly, love people but I can be pretty shy and reserved at first. Will I find it difficult to make friends/ relationships being that I only speak English? I am really just going off of some of the reviews I've read on the web. I see that there are plenty of community service opportunities so I would assume getting involved would help a lot with meeting people. If you attend, have attended or know someone who has please feel free to give me a little insight on this. Thanks! :) Any additional input or details that one would like to share is welcome as well!
