GO AHEAD and put some facts up about yourself if you are too looking for a Roommate

Also, if you’re wondering…I am Straight (Not Gay or Any Sort of New Gender)

Hi, I’m also looking for a roommate.
Here are some facts:
Male, Asian (specifically Indian), Straight
Mostly listen to rap/hip-hop as well
Don’t drink or do any drugs
Will probably be studying in the dorm most of the time unless its too noisy then I’ll probably go to the library
Wake Up Time: Most likely 8 A.M. depending on classes
Bed Time: Around 1 A.M. most likely
I also plan to join a few clubs and most likely work part time on campus
Dorm choices: 1st - San Jacinto, 2nd Jester (I doubt I’ll get San Jacinto though because I turned in my housing application in February). 2nd choice is Jester because it seems to be close to all the buildings and fairly cheap compared to the other expensive dorms.
Very Quite person but I can be talkative once I get to know people.
Very rarely will I have people over.
Grades are very important to me so I will take school seriously. I don’t party but I might go out once or twice in the semester.
Ask me anything else you want to know. The deadline for roommate preference is coming up soon (July 1st).

More people will see your roommate posts on Facebook! Or, um, you guys - room with each other! You both seem like perfectly reasonable roommates.

Holy Sh** deadline for roommate preferences is July 1st? I haven’t even received my housing contract yet and I am a transfer student attending the July 6th orientation. I’ll keep you in mind bullet man since you are (Indian) … lol no offense to others but you’re prolly more of my type than others I might find at the orientation. How do I pick a roomate if I haven’t even received a housing contract yet.

& bullet man > My first & second choices are the same and try to see if you can sign up for a private / connecting bath.

Yeah I really hope I get a private bath so I put that I was interested in it on the Housing page. I don’t know how you’re going to do it because the deadline for roommate preference is July 1st. Maybe if I put you down as my preference and you can put me down whenever you get your housing contract. You should have got it by now idk why you haven’t.

Did you guys already sign a contract? TMT90 created a post saying how the on-campus housing was full… There are nice places off-campus that will run you about $1300 a month ($650 a person). I rented an apartment for $1400 a month that is a 5min walk to the engineering buildings. Not to mention that it is fully remodeled. It has a new home smell :)

I must warn you though. The cheaper you get, the more shady things you’ll see. I toured an apartment that had a guy growing shrooms in black containers lol… he also had a bag of weed on his computer desk.

I haven’t received my contract yet but I am rooming with bullet man for fall & spring. I am guessing if he puts my UT EID down and I do it later whenever I receive my contract, will that work?

& Bullet Man > I sent you my UT EID in private message & send me your EID

Nxt: This is what I got when I put your UT EID for my roommate preference

The roommate you select must also select you as the preferred roommate by logging on and entering your UTEID on the Update Roommate Preference page.
You or your preferred roommmate do not have matching housing contracts. This can occur if your preferred roommate has not completed all the required paperwork and paid the required fees.
You and your preferred roommmate have not agreed to the same type of bath choice.
You and your preferred roommmate have not agreed to the same buildings in your hall preferences.

Anyone have any suggestions for people who have not received their housing contracts yet? July 1st is only 4 days away!!!

It sounds like you won’t be getting one, so I’d look for somewhere else to live.

I suggest making a trip up to Austin. Get a list of apartments/off-campus dorms you want to look at. Getting a realtor helps also, and they are free.

Yes you won’t be receiving a contract. UT housing emailed be back saying that they are no longer offering contracts unless someone cancels, and then they’ll be going down a list from application date. I applied early and I won’t be receiving one, so I also suggest you look for another place to live.

so you guys are saying that ALL ON-CAMPUS DORMS are full? Both shared Space and Singles? I cant even get a singles space if not shared? that’s bs

Shared space with community bath $7,881
Shared space with connecting or private bath $8,381
Shared space in Whitis with community bath $8,081
Shared space in San Jacinto and Duren $9,806
Single with community bath* $9,408
Premium Single with community bath* $10,935
Premium Single with connecting or private bath* $11,435
Duren Single* $13,715

Any suggestions for off campus dorms or a link to site or a thread ? I better get every bit of info I can before I visit em on July 6th.

[Welcome to the Austin Private Dormitory Association](http://www.austindorms.com/)

There is a group on Facebook called like The Official UT Class of '13 Group, and if you join it you’ll see there is a discussion thread called “Need a Roommate?” Tonssss of people have posted on it and listed their info and such. You’re bound to find someone compatible. It’s just with the VERY short amount of time between now and July 1st that may present a problem while waiting for a response. You could always just pot luck it and get the true randomized college experience? =P I know that you two already decided to be roommates, but I guess this info is for anybody else that is having the same problem.

yea I am already in the UT 12 Group since I am coming in as a transfer and Ill look for roommate a little bit there, but I was HOPING to certainly find one in the “Transfer” Orientation since everyone will be separate into their majors’ groups and most transfers might be in the same situation as me and we might be able to share an off campus dorm.
Also, the problem is not only the short amount of time but also the fact that I haven’t received my contract which puts my rooming with bullet man in jeopardy. I will probably end up off campus so I am gonna have to look for one and I am not going to wait for someone to cancel and then take that 50/50 chance that I might get one, after all I applied late than many others (idk I just waited for my spring grades … all the housing crap came outa nowhere until I started reading more on these forums after my finals). Well I guess either Dobie, Castillian, or the Towers will house me eventually and hoping them not to be full b/c that would suck to no end and I’ll do 50 push ups and run into a wall like crazy.
