I'm going to be a freshman at Cornell this fall, so I have a couple of questions.
Recently, I found out that the writing seminar I was assigned to conflicted with the time for Chemistry.
As a result, I would need to change the times for both Chemistry & Economics.

My first question: Is there any possible way to change my schedule before August 21st? If there isn't a way, do enrollment periods re-open at 12:00 AM (EST) on the 21st?

My second question: Currently, the micro-economics class I need to switch into is full (450/450). What's the chance that people will switch out and a few spots will open up?

Yes, you can make changes to your schedule during the add/drop period, which begins August 6.

You can never be completely sure, but with such a large class spots are bound to open up during add/drop. If not, email the professor about the situation and go to the first class session.

Another thing that should be noted is that you aren’t necessarily locked into the writing seminar that has been selected for you. If you really don’t want it, or if it doesn’t fit into your schedule, you can always search Student Center after Aug 6 to see if spots in any other writing seminar has opened up.

Thanks for the prompt response, but may I ask where August 6th came from?
In my enrollment window at the Student Center, it says: “You may begin enrolling for the Fall 2012 Regular Academic Session session on August 21, 2012.”
Do I get a delayed enrollment period because I’m a freshman?

If I contacted my advising dean, would I be able to move up that enrollment window to sometime sooner?

Oops, looks like Aug 6 is for seniors or something. You probably won’t be able to move the enrollment time as all freshmen have add/drop at the same time, but I don’t think you should worry too much about it. You can still go to class on the first day and formally enroll online later.

Is the FWS add/drop the same time as Aug 21? There’s not an earlier date for freshmen? I need to do massive changes to my schedule…sigh

There’s no special time set aside to change your FWS. That being said, few to no upperclassmen are taking FWS anyway so it wouldn’t really matter.
