I hope this is the right place for this question. If not sorry.
I need to write a 250 word personal statement for a few scholarships I am interested in, but I am not sure which topic to focus on.
-I plan on majoring in pre-med and environmental sciences next year.
-I want to enter the Peace Corp and be a neurologist or anesthesiologist afterwards.
-My parents own a learning center and I have been helping tudor students for awhile now for a job.
-I am involved in band (but do so as a hobby and not a future career)

Would any of these make good topics? I want to stand out but still sound genuine.

I’m a parent – not a college admissions dean – but what I would want to see in a “personal statement” is a paragraph or two that captures the essence of the person.
Some examples:

Desmond Tutu might write “I believe in the value of every human being and I feel that it is my duty to serve God by working to help all mankind.”

Kim Kardashian might write “I believe that anything worth doing is worth doing with style – and doing it in expensive style is ever so much fun!”

So, in the space of two sentences we get a clear idea of the person and their value set.

You write that you’d like to be in the Peace Corps. Any particular country appeal to you? Why that one? (One student might want to work on women’s issues in Africa; another might want to study the rainforest of Brazil – two valid but very different value sets).

You might ask parents and friends (and the kids you tutor) about yourself. “Quick! Give me three words that you associate with me!”
