I'm a freshman at a decently large, competitive public high school. There are a lot of ECs and course options. I'm taking one of the most difficult course loads in my class, with several honors courses including precalc. I usually have 2-3 hours of homework per night.

I'm trying to get involved with as many ECs as possible, but I'm having trouble managing activities, classes, and my sanity. I'm most involved in science and music.

I currently have violin lessons, youth orchestra, school orchestra, and a school-affiliated chamber orchestra. That's at least 13-15 hours per week, including practicing. I've also gotten involved in science bowl, ocean science bowl, science olympiad, and quiz bowl. I'm trying to self study AP Bio and APES, and possibly participate in USABO/USNCO in the coming years.

Here's my question. I was really involved with my middle school's science olympiad team last year, and I've gotten many medals, including a few gold medals at our state competition (in a competitive state). A lot of people expect me to be on the high school team (and win), but it's a lot of work. Last year all I worked on was science olympiad; this year I barely have time to study for my actual classes. It's a lot of pressure, and frankly I enjoy the quiz bowl competition format more.

Am I taking on too much? Should I quit the science olympiad team and risk letting people down, or should I put time into going to practices but not make it my top priority? I feel like if I take the former option it will be harder for me to pick it up again in the future. Also, am I on track in general EC-wise?

Thanks for reading my rambling post; any responses would be appreciated.
