Hi, all. I have been considering becoming an EMT for a while, but I was wondering if I could get some advice for the training. Does it matter where I take the courses if I can pass the national registry exam? If so, what are some good programs in San Diego (other than Miramar)? I am a student at UCSD, so I was also wondering if anyone knew if there are any courses offered at UCSD? Thanks!

Congratulation, on your decision to become an EMT. Very few jobs, at this level, are as rewarding. It doesn’t matter where you take the course, assuming that you amiss X amount of hours of hands on training (including X hours of ambulance ride along’s). I would recommend taking an EMT course at a CC, assuming you can get the financial aid for it; most EMT classes are around $700-$1300 + $300 for the test.

[EMSTA College](http://www.emstacollege.com/) appears to be decent. I’m unsure of the SD Area, but I know of many schools in my area (Long beach, about an hr away) that have 21 day courses. The courses are really very simple; I don’t think I know anyone who didn’t pass their exam after taking one.

Best of luck!

Doesn’t really matter where you get the training as long as you know your stuff. CCs are a good place to go, or check to see if your local fire stations do training. Good luck!

I’ve been an EMT almost 2 years this month and I haven’t paid a dime for classes- join a local fire station or at least ask them some questions and they’ll tell you where you can take the classes for free for state certification.
For MD, where I’m from, if you are affiliated with a LVFD, your entire tuition is free and was trained in a county facility.

After being state certified you can pay to take the national registry test, but I’m more than sure that you have to have a state certification before national registry.
