Need advice about "special needs" housing

My college offers medical/psychological and learning disability special needs housing. I am thinking of applying for the medical special needs housing because I suffer from frequent migraines. Medications have stopped helping me altogether and the only thing that seems to help is rest. I frequently get nauseous during my migraines and will throw up. It drives my roommate crazy when I get a migraine because she can't really come into the room since I really need complete silence and darkness. I was planning on trying to obtain a single through the lottery, but when I told my friend about the reason behind why I wanted a single she thought I may be able to apply for special needs housing.

I was wondering if you all thought if this was a valid medical reason for a single.

Thanks!

As someone with disabilities myself, both physical and of the learning variety, I think so. Definitely go for it if you can. I was trying to get a single through our regular system because of my disabilities and now it looks like I may not be able to and it may be too late to take the back door in. Don’t make that mistake, if you need it, ask for it.

What school do you go to? It is AWESOME that you have something like this available.

Chronic migraine disorder is a legal disability. But not everyone who has bad migraines has this disorder (I sometimes get bad migraines which leave me nauseous but I don’t have CMD). Go see a doctor and if you have this disorder, you’re definitely eligible for the Med special needs housing.

btw, establishing a regular sleeping schedule where you consistently sleep 7-8 hours, go to bed at the same time daily, and eat regularly (get some kind of a snack every few hours) helps with migraines. there’s also certain foods you should avoid…i’m sure you’ve heard this but just throwing it out there.

I too get migraines, and I am thinking of applying for a program similar to this at my school. I say go for it and let me know if it works out for you haha
