Since I was bogged down with a huge amount of schoolwork, I completely forgot that you usually have to apply to internships and summer programs very early on (jan-march). And since I really wasn't sure about what I wanted to do over the summer anyway, I kept putting it off. Now it's almost May and I don't have anything to do over the summer other than continue volunteering at the hospital. Any suggestions for what I could do over the summer? Any volunteer opportunities or summer programs that still take applications, even this late? I think that I am capable of getting into a fairly high-level college, but I also think that this might be a big setback, since I'm a junior in high school, and time is running short. What can I do? Thanks

There are still jobs available - have no fear. Maybe not the fancy, glorified types that you were hoping would buff your application, but regular, run-of-the-mill jobs that will still look good, such as working at a retail store, movie theater, etc. Just go out there and apply!

Other than jobs, is there anything that you guys know of? Great volunteering opportunities? Anything? If it helps at all, I’m more humanities-oriented I guess.

Search your state for volunteer opportunities; there should be on the website. I am not sure about other states, but I live in NY and the closing deadline is this Friday for summer job applications.

I do plan on doing a lot of volunteering hopefully. Having a mostly empty schedule the summer before senior year is making me antsy though :\ Most of my friends are science-oriented so they do things like internships. For that reason, I haven’t really heard about what non-science-oriented people do over the summer, other than volunteer and find jobs xD Sorry if that sounds kinda dumb of me ><
