Need advice and opinions!!!!!!!

Hi,
I am currently an Illinois state resident, and I will be a Senior this year. I am looking to go college in California. Do you think I will have any chances of getting into a Cal state school or anything similar?

My weighted GPA is 2.89/4 and my ACT score was 23. My EI number is around 800.

I meet all other requirements for colleges requireing C grades or higher in all other classes, excluding my foreign language. I have two years, one year with grades B D and the second year with grades D D. Yeah, I really didn't like it.

Anyways, I know this is a big problem because I need to, at the start, meet the standard requirements for most schools, which is two years grades C or higher. Is this foreign language deal really going to get me denied from colleges where you need grades C or higher for their requirements? (Which is like most universities!)

To me, I know many people who have gotten at least one D in their HS career. Until recently doing college research, I learned that most colleges dont accept D grades. Will this really screw over anyone looking to get into a university???????

I really need some advice!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks,

what is your unweighted GPA...

Non weighted is 2.82/4.

a D isnt going to kill you at most schools...
if you really want to go to California there is chapman university (you're on the lower end of their act range), which is probably a slight reach for you. you're more of a match from Sonoma State University or Whittier College. univeristy of redlands is probably a slight reach too.

as for the uc's riverside or irvine is probably the best match for you... i think that if you got your gpa at least up to a 3.0 during the next school year and improved upon your act even by a few points you would have a much greater chance at all of these schools and many others... or you could take a gap year and do something really interesting. that might make you stand out more to colleges

Thanks for the response.
That is a bit more reassureing to hear that hopefully I get can by with the french D's.
You mention UC schools however, those are much more selective and expensive than cal state schools. If I get my gpa up, which I plan to do, do you think I would have a better chance at a less selective cal state school such as CSU San Marcos?

Thanks!
