Need advice: dropping a class

So I've got a writing II req class and so far all my papers have come back with low Bs. Maybe I can pull it up to a solid B with the final paper, I'm not sure - I'm hate this class and just want it to be over with.

My profile: first year pre-medical

Dilemma: I don't want to get this grade in a GE because my core classes are kind of teeter-tottering and I need GE's with A's as a comfort zone.

Consequences of dropping: Enrolled in 13 units this quarter, this GE is worth 5.

Questions: Could I still get pwned with part-time student repercussions this late in the quarter? How horrible is the late drop notification on the DPR?

Looking past my whining, is dropping a good idea/worth it? What would you suggest I do if I didn't drop?
Thanks

This is how I see it:

 1. Only drop the class if you’re confident you’ll earning a higher grade when you re-take it. There’s no point in dropping a class if your grade won’t improve.

2) Only drop the class if its an anomaly. You said, “my core classes are kind of teeter-tottering and I need GE’s with A’s as a comfort zone”. What grades are you getting for your other GEs? Unless they’re much better, I wouldn’t drop the course. Yes, it’ll hurt your chances at med school but think about it this way: your grades are already shaky. You might not even make it to med school like most aspiring students and, even if you keep at it, there’s always grad school. You don’t need to go straight into med school from your BS.

3) You have to consider that the Writing II course isn’t just a GE. It’s the most difficult GE that many people take in their entire college career! You shouldn’t treat this class as an easy A because it isn’t going to be. There are plenty of professors who readily do hand out As but, before they do, they will work you like an ox. There’s so much work involved with Writing II that it could easily hurt your performance in other courses. Don’t treat Writing II as another easy GE. Treat Writing II as Writing II.

Personally, I would just take the B or B-. It’s an average grade and there’s already uncertainty in your med school prospects. Writing II is ultimately just one class (that isn’t even related to your field) and it won’t make or break your career.

Alright thanks for your comments sentiment. I didn’t know that was the general consensus on the Writing II requirement; in retrospect it seems like a silly idea to drop. Just to clarify though, * my own personal* standards for my grades are not being met, that doesn’t necessarily mean I’m not competitive, so I’m not going to throw out the prospect of a future just yet ;)

Also, the Easy GE list is misleading!
