I am currently attending a top 25 university on a full scholarship. The first semester of freshman year has been pretty rough. My GPA is a 3.5 which is the minimum for me to keep my scholarship. I took 15 credits which includes orgo, multivariable calc, a social science, and a humanities course.

College thus far has been much more difficult than I though it would be. My GPA is so low mainly because of Orgo. I received a B in this course. This concerns me because science GPA is so important in medical school admissions. The B in orgo sets my science gpa at a 3.0 right now.

It would be great if you can give me some advices on whether if i should continue to pursue medicine. (Or better yet, I know I want to pursue medicine, but is medicine right for me, as my orgo grade was so low)

There's at least four threads like this posted in the last week. To sum the answers up, you can bring up your GPA by doing well your next 5 (or 7, etc.) semesters. Change your study habits.

By no means should you abandon medicine based on a B in organic. That is fine.

Too late now, but not the greatest idea to take organic to start off freshman year (I did this, it was not fun).

Review your study habits, speak with your advisor, and be a bit more conservative about your course selection next semester, if you have a choice.

I was wondering more along the lines of does getting the B in Orgo I significantly hurt my chances since Orgo grade is supposedly more important than other science grades.

i have never seen any evidence to substantiate that claim, med schools generally seem concerned with your BCPM gpa rather than any individual course (though I would think that a particularly poor grade would draw their attention - a B certainly does not meet this qualification).

One B is fine. In Orgo especially, most people would be happy. 3.5 GPA is pretty good for first semester in tough college with killer schedule. With improvement, your GPA should be fine.
