Hi, I wanted some advice on which language classes I should take (for fun). I've already filled the language requirement, but I wanted to build on my Spanish skills (I've taken up to 4AP) or catch up on my Latin (I've taken Latin 1) without it hurting my GPA too much.

I might even be interested in starting a different language, if anyone has recommendations.

I tried to find some language DeCals that interested me, but most of them seem pretty specific (e.g. Spanish for Future Doctors, etc.) Does anyone know of any good language DeCals, especially some about literature?

I was just looking at the classes they offered this Summer but haven’t yet taken a look at the ones offered this Fall…anyway, at least in the Summer ones, I saw languages for “Beginners”, and other levels of fluency.
You’ve taken Latin and Spanish which are both in the Latin/Romance language category. Are you interested in continuing studying Romance languages in general (French, Italian?) or maybe you could branch out and try another language family? Maybe Germanic (German, Dutch?) or maybe an Asian language (I took a couple Mandarin Chinese classes, maybe you could look into that they were pretty cool)

I think it would be good for you to try French. With background in Spanish, you will have less trouble learning French compared to others.

depends on what you want… personally i think the most efficient route would be to continue spanish, you may think your 4 years have completed your “spanish training” but if you continue to take 2-3 years in college/get into an immersion program, you can become a true master. IMO completely though lol

If you pick another language, just like the previous poster said, continuing in the Romance languages will make the language a familiar playing field. If you’re really feeling exotic, take an Asian language, but keep in mind they are much different and will most likely overtake your college classes.
