Need advice? Have questions? I'm 4th yr Psych, Sixth College

psyc 60 is pretty basic stats- get it out of the way asap!

Most UD psyc classes are really interesting and not hard as long as you listen to lecture. A minor in psyc is a good choice- it relates to alot of careers and employers will see it as you have a good understanding of people, behaviors etc.

These are the classes/profs that stand out in my mind. Alot of the UD’s vary from year to year. So it’s best to just check what’s actually offered the quarter you want and then check CAPE and ratemyprof to decide.

It depends which area of pysc ur interested in: like I’m more interested in the mental disorder/drugs/abnormalities type of classes.

Prof. Ramachandran is amazing- i took mental fx’ing from him I think.
Prof. Kube- Drugs, Addiction and Mental disorders-
Prof. Christiansen- good prof any subject
Prof. ? -Interpersonal Relationships- easy,fun,interesting

Bad:
Schreibman- behavior modification

Alright, I have a non-psych related question.

I am a second year, poli sci major

1.) I was wondering if you knew any poli sci-related “research”/hands-on/some sort of practical experience that you’ve heard about (perhaps from a friend)?

and

2.) There are about 8-9 guys that want to stick together and live off campus jr. year – I know you mentioned the benefits of buying an apartment that’s conveniently located near the shuttle routes, but are there any apartment complexes that you’ve heard in particular that are not only along the shuttle routes, but a.) decently priced and b.) spacious? Seeing as there are 8-9 of us, we are planning on getting two apartments in the same complex but we can’t decide on one because we’re unfamiliar with all of them.

Thanks!!

The only poli-sci thing I can think of is working/volunteering for a political party, like passing out flyers and I’m not sure what else they do. The Preuss school especially needs tutors for their AP and higher level classes— so you could do AP History or something like that for a quarter or longer.

Anyone I’ve known who lived outside of UTC area jr year ended up not liking it and moving to UTC for SR. year. Nothing in UTC is spacious or decently priced.

Going out on wknds it’s hard for people outside of utc to get a ride home, its hard to hangout with people far away in general.

Some apt complexes have alot of families with grandparents and babies- they make complaints if you try to have a party etc.

Costa Verde is the most college student friendly. It has a big gym, 3 pools. I pay $412/month there are 4 of us sharing a 2 bdrm apt. we can have friends over and not get complaints it’s on the shuttle route, super close to mcdonald’s area.

Cleaner, nicer places are on “Easter way/Vision Dr.” “Playmor” “Caminito Sonoma” ----- try driving around those areas.

in ur experience, how hard is the bild series, do u have to study and memorize alottt?? is it possible to juggle chem6c with a bild class? and which one should i take? my major is biochem/chem which suggests bild 1 for winter but i dont have room to add it, so in the spring should i take that class or take bild 3 first or bild 2?

^BILD 1 is a prereq for BILD 2 and it doesn’t matter if you take 3 before 1. The recommendation that they give you is just a general recommendation so it’s not necessary to take next quarter if it doesn’t fit. There’s a bit of memorization but if you put in the little bit of studying every day it shouldn’t be a problem, even with CHEM6C.

Being a Psych major I have avoided scary science classes at all costs.
I’ve only taken Bild10 to fulfill a GE for psych majors. It was tons of memorizing and studying and stuff about Darwin etc. and attendance was mandatory b/c of those stupid clicker questions.

I’m not the person to ask about chem/bild classes. But in general biochem/chem majors i’ve known are really on top of their work, study groups, flashcards, etc. About half of pre-meds in my dorm fresh year dropped/switched majors at some point.

My roomate was taking 2 physics classes and 1 Bio last quarter, to graduate on time. She left too many classes for the end.

Jr or Sr year if you did well in a Bio class you should try for a TA position.
