Need Advice: NYU Stern freshman with a 3.83 GPA

Hi! I am currently a freshman at NYU Stern, and I just ended this semester with a 3.83 first term GPA. I am looking for advice on transfer. I took Microeconomics (Stern class, so it's difficult), Culture and Context: China (basically a history class on Chinese history), Calculus I, Commerce and Culture (a writing class that focuses on business, a Stern class so it's SUPER DUPER HARD). I got A for the first 3 and B+ on the last one. I consider myself lucky to get a B+ because the class is hard.

For this term, I became the Freshman Representative of the largest and most prestigious clubs on campus (the only one too). I also became member of Finance Society and other clubs.

I currently have Columbia, UPenn (Wharton), Cornell (AEM), Brown University and Harvard (haha, don't think I will get in) on my list. I wonder what my chance will be for Columbia and Penn, which are my top choices.

I have a SAT I score of 2290, SAT II score of 800 (math II), 790 (Bio), and 7 AP scores that are all 5.

I also have special talent and won many awards...I went to a top private prep school (The Lawrenceville School) and graduated cum laude as well.

If anyone could give me advice, I will really appreciate it! THANK YOU!

You are obviously a qualified applicant, but I think the real problem hear is your motive for transferring. You are already at one of the top undergraduate business school in the country if not the world. Arguments could be made that it rivals every school on your transfer list. Without a compelling reason to transfer I don’t see it happening, you should be very happy to be at NYU Stern and it appears you are doing everything right to land sought after internships and eventual employment.

Thank you so much for your awesome advice! Greatly appreciated :)

100% agree jman1295 - The only reasons to transfer would be if you didn’t like the city environment or if you aren’t happy with Stern. The only schools really worth transferring to from Stern would be Harvard or Wharton for their wider network. Otherwise, all the finance opportunities you’ll get at H/W - you will get at Stern also. For finance recruiting - Columbia & Brown would be a downgrade from Stern.

My advice to you if you want to pursue finance is to Stay at Stern. Keep talking to upperclassmen to get a sense of how unreal recruitment has been here. Also, you’re killing it here so far & Stern offers so many wonderful opportunities - especially a multitude of study abroad / short-term trips that most other schools won’t have.
