I am a high school junior and I want to go to an art school. I am very interested in graphic design but I absolutely love photography, especially fashion photography.

I've been told my photographs/art is good, but being from a rural area, I have practically no exposure to the level of standards art schools or the "art world" set.

The schools I have heard about/focused on are Parsons, FIT, RISD, Pratt, and SVA, but again, I know nothing about how difficult they are to get in, etc. I know I should visit these colleges and all that, but if anyone can offer advice, thank you!

i believe central st. martin's in london offers fashion photography as a major. you might want to check that out.

honestly speaking, if financial aid is a concern you should have regular research university as a back up. photography as major is one of those that can be very risky to get into , because you'd essentially be paying money for a job that won't guarantee you a job, and if you do get a job in it, it will pay very low.

You should REALLY consider RIT for what you want. Atlhough they aren't a stand alone art school, they have strong programs in both photography ( think Baush and Lomb, Eastman Kodak) and graphic design.

Your choices are good too especially SVA and Pratt. I don't think that you can double major in both RISD and graphic design at RISD. RISD's emphasis is on intensive study of one area.

RIT offers strenuous studio-based curricula in Photography. Don't pigeon-hole yourself as a "fashion photographer. Develop a broad portfolio. As a graduate of RIT's photo program I can attest that its reputation is well deserved.

Hi everybody.... I Hope somebody can help me with some information. My sister its applying for painting schools and she was very interested on RISD and MICA. Both of them gave her scholarships but its very difficult to know wich one is the best choice for painting. It would be very helpful if someone knows has an opinion. Thanks

Artheartus, both a strong in pure fine art such as painting. SAIC, however, has a higher ranking for painting by US News and World Report, if that has any bearing.

It seems like the question is about the two schools mentioned. Why confuse the issue by bringing up SAIC, (ratings based on grad school, btw)?
MICA is known for fine arts, RISD more for design. Both have talented, driven painters, etc. That said, the decision should be based on feel, student work, etc. Also, Mica allows you to combine disciplines which may be important to some students. RISD - commit sooner to one major and do not veer from that. This rankings talk is getting old.
