Need advice on dropping a class

I posted this in College Admissions but got no reply :( Maybe you can help?

I am a senior applying to several ivies.
I signed up for Creative Writing this semester. Yet, I only recently found out that the class is basically a blow off/study hall class with 5-6 students in it and that the teacher makes it a work period 95% of the time.
I am going to give this class a try, but if rumors are correct, would it be bad for me to drop it in terms of college admissions? Would I/my GC have to explain this to colleges or would sending in my new transcript be enough? How could I explain this without sounding whiny/snobby? Or should I just deal with the class no matter how pointless it is?
Sorry if this sounds whiny, but I hate the idea of wasting 50 minutes of my life in a class IF I am not going to be learning anything.

Thanks so much!
Marga

It's only wasted if you do nothing. Ask the teacher for assignments you can do during that period. You have the right to be given work and have it graded. If the teacher won't help you, write on your own. The best writers are self-driven. If that doesn't work, see if another teacher will do an independent study class with you where you can do the work in that class period. I would talk to the counselor or administration about a class that has no assignments, and see why that is allowed.

^^ My English teacher was talking about how most people that take this class don't like creative writing but want a blow off class and this class became known for that :( We do get assigments, but my friends are saying that the teacher gives us an extended period of time on it and most students end up working on something else... I would rather write at home/take a creative writing class at a community college if this is the case.

You should have at least 4 credits of English. If you have them already, maybe you could switch that class for something else. If not, stick with it (or switch to another English class).
