Hi, I’m a new member to this site. I just had a quick question regarding the English section of the ACT: all of my prep books (Princeton Review and Barron’s ACT 36) have been telling me to skip the style questions (reordering sentences, main idea, etc.) and to save them for last, but does this technique effectively work/save time? I feel like after answering the quick questions from all 5 passages and then reading through them once again would waste time? I’m currently a Junior, and I’m going to take my first ACT exam on April 9. Sorry if this was already asked before and thanks! (Also, any other advice on the ACT would be greatly appreciated!)
I forgot to add: (For the Reading Section) Barron’s prep book says not to quickly read the questions before actually reading the passage, whereas Princeton Review says to do so. What do you think is more beneficial?
Hey, my advice would be to read as you go along, don’t directly go to the questions. I personally read when I get to the underlined part I answer the question. In the end when you see the big result question such as, did this passage accomplish this point “yes/no…” I look back and in the passage answer it and then check over my answers and continue to the next passage. I normally finish with 2-3 minutes left so I’d recommend you read, answer the questions as you go along and then just refer back to the passage on the rhetorical questions at the end. I don’t think you would waste time 45 minutes is more than enough time.
