Need advice on getting into Rice - My father works there

So I have a strange situation

I did horribly in high school and ruined my chances of going to Rice after graduation.

I ranked in the bottom quartile, and my GPA is a 2.5

I graduated class of 2008 and started taking classes at the community college

But during my second semester, I had to leave class due to a car accident

Now not only do I have a horrible GPA, but my transcript has a bunch of Incompletes.

The thing is, my father has been an employee of Rice for 17 years, which means I qualify for free tuition. The only catch is that he is retiring in four years.

I have 15 college credits and 1600 on my SAT

I've been in city orchestra for 7 years and I have done a lot of community service.

What are my options and what should I do (besides raise my GPA) to get into Rice?

My parents are also employed by Rice, so I know where you’re coming from.
Not only do you qualify for free tuition, you have a big admissions advantage.
My advice would be to have your father talk to the admissions office - I have friends whose parents have done the same. They can advise him as to whether or not you’d be likely to get in now, and if not, what would be the fastest way to become qualified.
Anyway, my advice would be to get a cleaned-up transcript (as in fill in the incompletes), raise your GPA and SAT somewhat, and go for it. Again, you won’t have as hard a time as a different applicant with your situation.
(did you apply to Rice after HS graduation?)

Hey thanks for the reply!

I’ve been stressing about this for a really long time

It’s comforting to meet another person who’s parents are employed at Rice :)

After high school, my plans were to take HCC courses to raise my GPA and retake my SAT

But after my car accident, my parents had me enroll in the same classes but with different professors.

So now, I have Incompletes in a few classes, but I have completed the same classes with other professors.

Maybe when I finally apply to Rice, I can explain my situation during the face to face interview?

Also, I’ve heard that when you transfer from HCC to UH, your GPA is renewed, meaning you start all over.

Would transferring to UH then to Rice better option for me?

Or should I try to apply as a Freshman at Rice?

Make an appointment with the admissions counselor at Rice who is responsible for faculty children. Ask him/her what you should do in order to maximize your chances for admission. Find out if it is possible to enroll as a probationary or part-time student for a semester so that you can demonstrate that you are able to do the work.

Also, check into the possibility of getting a job at Rice yourself. For example, if you are an administrative assistant would you be eligible to take classes for credit? That way if your parent retires before you finish, you could have the rest of your credits covered.
