need advice on planning classes

So I was going through that class planner thing trying some different class scenarios, I know it would be murder-suicide to have a lecture then 10 mins after that have another lec but how about the ta dis. thing. A lot of the dis. times I want usually end 10 mins before or start 10 mins after the corresponding class. Is that doable or do I need to spend another 7 million hours trying to come up with a decent schedule possibility?

Its not "murder-suicide" to have back to back lectures- I've had 3 back to back lectures with a discussion following those before. Back to back lectures are inevitable unless you really space out your courses by taking summer school or get the luck of the draw w/ the way the classes are drawn up. Most courses/discussions are drawn up for those 10 min in between in order for you to walk from one place to the next.

Oh, so it's possible to walk from class to class in 10 mins? I was thinking it might be a problem especially carrying your stuff around. Hm, this opens up a lot of windows. ^_^

i never had a problem with it, but usually my classes are grouped in a particular area (south campus). it may be a problem from lets say... bunche to lakretz

Don't listen to whoever told you this. You did survive high school, didn't you, where you had "6+ lectures" almost back to b ack to back .. etc? Actually, there was actually a lunch, but usually there was at least 3 classes back to back to back. You will be fine. DOn't take a break, it will stretch out the day.

10 minutes is enough to walk even from Bunche to Boelter. You should have no problem unless you are an athlete, since most athletes stroll very slowly.

Thanks guys! If I could remember who told me that I'd go correct them haha. That's really good to know, thanks. Boelter, I thought I misread that last sentence for a second.

Not intended to offend athletes (football linemen), but they walk very slowly and take up a lot of room on Bruinwalk. Bad for skaters who are coming down very fast, and students who are almost late to class.

No worries lol, I was just thinking stamina or speed or something haha. I know what you mean though, I've seen it too. I didn't finish the whole sentence the first three times that's why.

i was looking at classes, and econ 1 and econ 2 both start at 8am. is that going to suck? am i going to end up missing a lot of classes?
on the class planner, it wont show up at any other time, so im assuming that 8am is the only offering
(im only choosing one of those by the way)

the registrar's website will list all lectures for a given class, so go to www.registrar.ucla.edu and check it out.
if there's only the 8am lecture, then yes, it's 8am or nothing.

are you going to miss a lot of classes? depends on your discipline. i predict yes, because even the most disciplined students don't love rolling out of bed and starting to walk to class at 7:40. but hey. it's all up to you. and good thing you're only choosing one, because three or four 8am days are killer! (i had 3 9am days last quarter and let's just say... i found some interesting workarounds).

the good news is that for some classes, there may be two lectures, early and late. IF that is the case, then even if you're stuck signing up for the early 8am one, most profs won't notice/care if you show up for the later one. doesn't apply to discussions however ;)
