Currently i am about to take the Psat in about a month. i have a few prep book and according to them i make around 200-210. i dont really know what else to do. i have tried most of their stradegy and found them to be of little used. i have problem in citical reading and writing. my problem with critical reading is some of the vocab. i do pretty well on the comprehension though. writing is the hardest for me because english is my second launguage. Please, if anyone have any prepping experience could help, i would appreciate it.
i am hoping to go to Washington U in St Louis, or John Hopkins U. my EC isnt very impressive, although i am in NHS and a couple of clubs. I am in the IB program and am also taking a few AP class. if you have any advice i would welcome it.

Please people....advice is much appreciated.

If you're problem with critical reading is the vocabulary, I suggest getting a word list and memorizing as many words as you can in the time you have. For writing, try to figure out which type of problems you need help with, and learn the grammatical rule that goes with it.

Good luck!

I'm having trouble with the math section, can you offer me some advice, also?.

has anybody's school recieved the PSAT booklets yet?

mine hasnt and I was just wondering. Also when should they be arriving?

i have gotten the booklet when i paid to register for the test at my school.
math is easy to me. if you have problems with math, then just do a lot of practice questions. take your time at first and try not to use a calculator. i find that calculator waste more time then they are worth; of course if at the later part of the math section they can be help full.

Also, is there any other way to study vocab words? i hate studying word lists because they dont often help and takes too much time. i was wondering if there is any books out there that would improve one's vocab. if anyone have any suggestion feel free to post.

Also, i have figured out my problem on the writing. the problem is because i go through them too fast, often not completely reading the question and choosing the first answer that works. after each section i usually have 5 to 10 minutes left. i would really like some help on how to slow down a bit.

Any test taking strategy is much welcomed.

bump bump bump

any help please

There are some cool books that have all the vocabulary that the SAT has ever used. It's not formatted as a list, instead, they made it into a mystery story and they use all of the words in it. The story is actually good, too. The books are "Tooth and Nail" by Charles Harrington Elster and Joseph Elliot and the other book is "Test of Time" by Charles Harrington Elster...hope this helps..

Did you (or anyone else) read Tooth and Nail?

yeah, i read Tooth and Nail and Test of Time, both of them were good..it even has the whole word list in the back of the book in case you didn't get the meaning of the word in the context of the sentence..

kool, thx for the advice

thanks, i'll check it out
