Need advice on schedule for kelley standard admit.

My current schedule for fall is:
BUS-A 100

ECON-E 201

MATH-M 118

PHIL-P 150-elementary logic

REL-B 220-intro to hinduism

Since I want to get into kelley, I was wondering if this was a good schedule. My last two classes are just to get gen ed out of the way and I have credit for Math-M 119. I also have 10 credit hours already.
Also, is econ, finite, and accounting in one semester too much to take?

PHIL P150 is not an easy course per the 1st link below. Your 1st three will be time consuming enough. You should take a look at other threads to see if you have other options. This is a bit late so that most easier courses are filled up.

http://gradedistribution.registrar.indiana.edu/gradedist.php?dept=PHIL&subject=p&crse=150&clsnbr=&instrname=&report_selection=gradedist&search_process=go</a></p>

I came across the one below. It seems to be a decent one.

HPSC-X 100 HUMAN PERSPECTIVES ON SCIENCE (3 CR)
9009 RSTR 04:00P-05:15P TR SY 002 Brumble K 35 22 0

M118 and E201 in the same semester (especially your first semester at IU) will be difficult. I will argue and say M118 and E201 will probably be the hardest of your prerequisites for Kelley. You should try and take M119 over M118 your first year and replace E201 with C104 or K201 this semester.

If you take K201 this semester, make sure you go to every class and keep up with the work. Very very easy to fall behind in that class.

C104 is pretty easy to get a B or higher in if you put in a genuine effort. The class will be more time consuming than you think but overall its not too bad. I suggest taking A100 the first 8 weeks so you will have the time needed for the final presentations.

If you stick with M118 this semester, just know it is known for being difficult. With that being said, my best advice would be to do as many practice test and practice problems as possible. Go to office hours as well whenever you can. Here are the grade distributions for you to see how students have done in this course in prior semesters.

http://gradedistribution.registrar.indiana.edu/gradedist.php?dept=MATH&subject=&crse=118&clsnbr=&instrname=&report_selection=gradedist&search_process=go</a></p>

The grade distributions for M119 are only slightly higher because many incoming students who score high on the math placement exam end up taking M211 which is a step up from M119 in terms of difficulty.

I got a 4 on my ap calc ab test in high school so would you know if i am eligible to take it since I have already earned credit for M 211?

For some reason my last comment isn’t being deleted.

Thank you guys for the advice! I have tested out of Math M 119 so 118 is the only option right now. I have also dropped phil p 150 for an easier course and am thinking about switching bus A 100 with another course.

Who is your M118 professor? Don’t drop A100 yet!

you should take A100. Do as many of the practice tests as possible. they’re almost identical to the real exams.

ace550, my m 118 professor just says staff so I’m not sure yet. I managed to with econ with bus k-201 and I will keep A 100. I just need to find a good alternative for phil-p 150. Again thank you guys for all the help!

I would highly recommend taking a MATH-M 118 course with a verifiable teacher. My top recommendations are McKinley, Kattner, Hendrickson, and Manoharan. McKinley is the “Finite Show” director (you’ll find out what it is) and he usually writes most of the department test (mid-term and final) so he would be the best. Kattner and Hendrickson also have good reputations and I had Manoharan which he is a great guy (go to office hours, sit in front of class, and talk to him after class and he will bump grade up at end of semester if you are close on the line). Also take advantage of the free tutoring offered by grad students in Swain East every Monday-Thursday night. My favorite was a man by the name of Nikhil Gupta (Princeton grad and very relatable) but all the tutors are great and are the only reason I was able to get a B in the course (going to be a sophomore now and was admitted to Kelley after freshman year). As far as A100 goes I would take it over the summer if you are in-state and near an IU campus. If not I would wait to take it the first 8-weeks of the second semester. That way you can get your feet under you, get acclimated to the college life, and then take that weed out class. Who do you have for ECON-E 201? I had Olson and most people give him a bad review but I loved the dude and got an A in his class. As long as you study and read a little bit on it every day you should be fine. Plus a lot of his tests are on ■■■■■■■.com and he recycles questions which is always a bonus. Best of luck!

OK it won’t let me spell it out for some reason but it is k o o f e r s

Did you say you are taking K201 this semester instead of E201. I would definitely take E201 this semester; that way you can take G202 (a pretty easy two-credit class) in the Spring to use to apply to Kelley.

These are the only I-core prerequisites you need to apply as a standard admit to Kelley next Spring:

Fall
A100 – 1 cr.
E201 – 3 cr.
M118 – 3 cr.

Spring
K201 – 3 cr.
C104 – 3 cr.
G202 – 2 cr.

G202 will be much easier than A201 or other qualifying classes like E370. But you can’t take G202 unless you already have credit for E201; E201 is a prerequisite for G202.

A good plan for you would have been to take M118 and E201 at a cc before coming to IUB, and not sending your AP score so you could take M119 instead of M118. Maybe you could talk to Kelley about taking M119. Is it written in stone that you cannot? Maybe they see M119 as “business calculus” and M211 as more theoretical math class. Often you can find in schedules that credit cannot be given for a particular class if another class has already been taken, but I have not seen such a statement regarding M119 and M211. I guarantee you that many, many ill-advised IU students have been told to take M211 and dropped it, then wound up in M119 anyway.

Don’t think E201 will be easy at IUB. It is a sink or swim weed out class for Kelley hopefuls. You can look at some past tests at the link below for past exams.
http://mypage.iu.edu/~econcore/e201/e201.html</a></p>

Also, I would not risk getting a grade less than a solid B by taking gen ed classes that may be difficult, as many religion and philosphy classes can be. You have plenty of time AFTER being accepted to Kelley to complete the pittance of gen ed classes that IUB requires of current students (once you account for the ones that double-count as Icore prerequistes, you will only need three classes maximum). You don’t need to risk you Kelley acceptance chances with hard gen eds. Right now, because of your late registration date, you won’t have many good gen ed options. You will probably leap frog much of the freshman class, however, with the ten credits you have now when registration for Spring classes begins in November. You will register before all freshman who come in with nine credits or fewer, and that is a lot of people that you can beat to the next round of gen ed offerings.

I agree with bthomp1. Take advantage of easy classes that can help boost your GPA now because once you are ion Kelley there is a plethora of classes you need to take to graduate. I suggest SPH-H 180 and SPH-F 255 as they are very easy 3 credit classes that you can obtain an A in. Also add in classes such as: SPH-I 111, SPH-I 113, SPH-I 117, and SPH-I 185 if you need some easy 1 credit filler classes.

sap2011, you don’t actually need G202 second semester (if you take finite and E201 at IUB). But I would take it anyway because it is an easy B.

Also, you could avoid E201 at IUB by taking it online in the first-eight weeks session at Ivy Tech Bloomington. You would only need a solid C or higher for Kelley purposes. If you had E201 equivalent from Ivy Tech, then your Kelley qualifying classes would be easier and you would need G202.

Fall
A100 – 1 cr.
M118 – 3 cr.

Spring
K201 – 3 cr.
C104 – 3 cr.
G202 – 2 cr.

E201 equivalent would be at Ivy Tech Bloomington.

Also, the qualifying classes for standard admission could possibly change when the new Kelley bulletin is released, probably in September.

Did you end up fairing well? A year later? M118 in specific.

You can still take the M118 equivalent at Ivy Tech(M135) or E201 or W131 or M119 this summer. I am too lazy to check for you.
