My son is currently taking APUSH and is planning on taking the US History subject test in June. We can’t decide what other test he should take. He’s currently in Precalc and struggling a bit so Math II doesn’t seem like a good choice. He did well in Math up until this year. He’s doing well in Spanish IV however (but isn’t a native speaker). Should he take the Spanish Subject test or the Math I subject test? Is Spanish test just for native speakers? Could he do well after only Spanish IV?
What year is he? If he’s a sophomore, just take US History and wait. If not, consider Math I. My D took those two plus Literature. But, this is hard to answer in a vacuum because his intended major and the recomendations of the college matter. Some schools want physics for engineering students and Math 2 is probably better. If not STEM, Math 1 should be good.
You are right to not take a test that he’s not qualified to take. Take a practice test on Spanish and for that matter, Math 1 and Math 2. I believe the kids making 800’s have a much stronger background than Spanish IV.
He is finishing his Junior year. He is undecided on his major. Most colleges on his list don’t require Subject tests, but at least one says they are recommended (which basically means you should take them if you want to get in). He won’t need 700+ scores for these schools, but high 600s would be good. Thank you!
