Need Advice Regarding Transient Classes

Hi, I am currently enrolled at UCF, but I am limited to taking online classes for health reasons. I don't want to fall behind, and I am running out of general education classes to take. Next semester I am thinking about taking some online classes from Valencia community college because UCF doesn't offer them online. Will this hurt my chances when I apply to transfer to different schools? I have to take College Algebra from Valencia because UCF doesn't do online math.

Also, is it possible to take a class over December break that will count the same as any other credit from a community college? I want to finish classes as fast as possible, and taking a class over December break would be beneficial if it isn't an extreme amount of work.

Thank you.

bump, and also does it matter which CC I take classes from?

In general terms, it is perfectly fine to take coursework at more than one place at a time. You won’t get any aid to cover those classes, but that is about it. If you apply for transfer, you would just send both transcripts, and let the receiving institution sort out the credits it wants to accept.

However, since you are currently a student at UCF, it makes little sense to take classes anywhere that can’t apply toward your UCF degree if it turns out that you can’t transfer. So get in touch with UCF and find out which CC courses (if any) you can take and apply toward your degree, and which term you could take them in. Sometimes classes are only accepted if they are taken in the summer term.

At UCF, taking math classes from Valencia is pretty common. Valencia students also have guaranteed admission to once they earn their AA, so I am pretty certain all of Valencia’s credits transfer. I am just hesitant to take community college classes because they are from a community college, and UM/UF (the schools I want to attend) would look at someone that took classes from both a university and a community college differently.

You have a better chance of getting in to UF and UM if you are from a community college with an AA degree in florida than if you are a university student. So the odds wont be any less in your favor, you will not be a priority if you dont have an AA degree.

The community college classes wont hurt you just Try to get an AA degree from UCF and you will be fine. Otherwise any community college student with good grades will have a better chance.
